If Michigan can land Greg Mattison, former Ravens DC...

...then why couldn't LSU land Cam Cameron? Does anyone think that Cam is still a candidate, despite what is being reported?
Geez...a week ago I would have considered Mattison a top candidate for the Michigan job, well above Hoke. Baltimore's defense is a beast!
With the level of hiring going on a Texas (Harsin), Florida (Weis), and Michigan (Borges), Miles has got to be able to bring in a big time OC. Is the lack of a "name" OC interview possibly part of Mile's stall tactic to get in more recruiting visits?

Maybe someone else can provide exact details, as I don't know the rule completely.
But my understanding is that when a school loses a Head Coach or Coordinator, then recruiting visits can be increased to make up for the loss. Or something to that effect.
Anyone know the exact rule...?

I am not familiar with every one of the jobs you mentioned but I would guess those jobs offer one thing the LSU job doesn't and that's autonomy. The LSU job is less attractive to a highly qualified OC because Miles is going to be heavily involved in the game planning and offensive philosophy. If you were a OC that knew what you were doing would you rather work for a Muschamp who left you alone or Les Miles?

I heard on ESPN that he is a good friend with Hoke..maybe that's the reason

As a side note it may be possible to get Leach if he is desperate to get back into coaching. He might be the exception.

Excellent question! My answer would be to keep pace with the high level of coaching on LSU's schedule. Florida just hired Charlie Weis, who has an outstanding record coaching offenses and QBs (Brady, Clausen, and KC). Florida set the bar with their OC hire and I'd like LSU to, at the very least, match it.
My point with the Mattison hire was just, "if Michigan can get the Ravens' DC, maybe LSU can get the Ravens' OC - Cam Cameron". And I used the Ravens as an example because Miles has ties with Cameron, just as Hoke has ties to Mattison.
Furthermore, what a great freakin hire by Michigan. Their defense is waaay worse than LSU's offense. The best way to get that defense back on track is with a hire like this. Thus I would like to see LSU make an NFL Coordinator quality hire.

Granted, Weis sucked as a head coach at Notre Dame. But his offenses have never been the problem:
3 Super Bowl rings
Coached Brady Quinn - 1st round NFL
Coached Jimmy Clausen - 1 round NFL
KC 2010 offensive coordinator - No. 14 overall, No. 1 rushing attack
Aw crap! And the guy can recruit.
Man, I sure hope to eat my words, because the last thing I want is for Weis to have success at Florida. We are sure gonna find out tho.

The reports that I have heard, Weis hated recruiting, last report being a few days ago from AFR.

how are you ranking them at 4 overall? they're number 12 in yards per game (349.7) and 14th in points per game (22.9).
not an attack question, btw, maybe theres some way that puts them 4th. although i will say weiss is an overrated pos who is nothing but hype, and im not worried about him in Florida AT ALL.

Yeah, I'm sure that was a factor. Although, I wouldn't call him a "Michigan Man". (Really starting to dislike that phrase...)
He previously coached as DL and DC from 92 - 96, so I'm not sure that he considers Michigan home. (Interesting to note that Michigan went undefeated and won the Nat. Title in 97, the year he left for Notre Dame. But, he also was UF DC when they won it in 06).
My main point with the post is regarding the rumour that Cam Cameron might be hired by Les. I thought that was a bit of a reach until seeing Michigan get Mattison. If one Ravens' coordinator would move to the same position in college, I'm wondering if the other might also?
Anyway, Cam is at the top of my list until a hire is made...whenever that might be. Looks like we could be waiting for a while.

Mattison was asked to leave and Cam was asked to stay. My top wishful choice is Steve Logan. Don't know if he's interested.

mattison is nothing special...he probably wouldnt have been brought back in baltimore anyway
