If I'm Tenn I would strongly consider Venables or Pruitt.

Both defensive guys that would have to get someone to run the offense.

If Tennessee wants to go back to being men playing football they need a culture change. Les would be great for them. May not win championships but would be a good culture change for the next guy.

Venables is the obvious choice at this point

I'd have to think Venables doesn't want to be a HC at this point. He's more qualified than probably half the guys that have jobs in the FBS.

He was the second choice for us. I think the fact that KSU could be open any year now and he bolt for it throws people off.

I think they need a proven head coach . They can’t keep firing unproven head coaches .

Don't you see the problem with thinking you always need a "proven" guy?
Unless you're ready to shoot the locks off of the wallet and pry a championship coach away from his school ala A&M, you're likely choosing a coach that's decent but has a fatal flaw.
You're taking a bigger risk going with an unproven guy but there's a potential larger reward if you unearth a gem.
