If history is a guide, temper your expectations.

This board is off the rails. Yesterday didn't help and people are upset. Go back over 30 year's history, though, and it doesn't suggest Herman or Jimbo in a bidding war.
In all that time, LSU did something bold with Bo Rein, and did something strategic with Nick Saban. Those hires were with an eye toward tomorrow: a young guy with a big future and the second a commitment to investment with big picture payoff. The remaining hires were easy, cheap, short sighted, or what was left in the barrel. They did not play out well long term for the school. Miles had a great run, but I don't believe he was our first choice. Arnsbarger was never a long term solution and we muffed the follow through.
Look at LSU today. It is not the LSU that hired Saban. Temper your expectations. I'm preparing myself for disappointment, but hope to proven wrong. The mix of factors, however, just doesn't point to a transformational hire.
