Again, any reasonable amount would be easily matched by the guys that fund Alabama's football interests. Sure, maybe the texas boosters are worth 12 billion dollars collectively and the bama boosters maybe only worth 4 billion...but it's not like Texas is going to offer the guy 4.1 billion to coach.
Texas fashions themselves as Bill Gates while Alabama is Bill Gates yard boy. In reality Alabama is Phil Knight. They may not be as rich as Texas, but they're more than rich enough for the job at hand.
I know you have your source Chicken and I know how Texas views themselves, but I promise you that Alabama won't be outbid. I've got that from a source I trust even more than you

Don't think they'll need their piss hot. Maybe Bama should try to figure out where they're going to get Oil and Gas Stock to offer. Or hurry up and buy out Jim Bob Moffit from his Diamond mines...
Jesus, the way some of you people are talking, it's like as though Saban will be offered somewhere in the 200-500 million a year range.

If Bama's profit is $35m and UT is 60m (random guess) then UT would have to offer him 36m before Alabama couldn't match it. We all know that isn't happening so the talk about UTs money is irrelevant.
That's... not how that works. I have no dog in this fight but are we really debating whether UT can offer more money?
Plenty of angles you can take with this without having to resort to pure nonsense.

Genro, I get what you are saying. If Saban leaves, it will be less about money and more about pursuing a new opportunity and possibly winning a title at a third school.
Regardless, he is about to find out his true market value and it is a lot more than he makes today.

UT CAN offer more money, but what I'm saying is it would have to be an unrealistic amount for that to be relevant. You follow?

I would guess the combined personal wealth of Alabama alumni/boosters would be in the tens of billions, while the combined personal wealth of Texas alumni/boosters would be in the hundreds of billions. So what kind of offer are they gonna make?
how many members are in the Bryant Society at Alabama?

Alabama's enrollment is up like 40%, they've won 3 crystal balls and are the darling of ESPN with like 5 straight #1 recruiting classes. Saban's market value is much higher than any deal he will sign.

Of course they can offer more money. All anyone is saying is that the amount they'd have to offer before Alabama was unable or unwilling to try to match it would be completely unrealistic.
The money thing has gone beyond ridiculous.

I think UT could offer $10M - $15M a year. Is that unreasonable? Would Bama match that?

It's almost like as though some people are willing to concede that, while Alabama has money and has OT-ballin' boosters, since they live in Alabama, the money is worth significantly less.
It's... actually really fun reading.

If they had to? Yes. I don't think it will be that high, though.
