Some Bama folks here drunk on hubris here just seem to be of the belief that there's nothing Texas can do to get Saban to seriously consider their offer, and that Texas' pending offer is irrelevant.

While that may be true about some Bama folks, I'm certainly not of that opinion. I'm just don't agree that it's impossible for Texas to make a (realistic) offer that Bama couldn't counter.

There are a lot of assumptions in this. If my goal was to cement a legacy, hopping to Texas and winning a Championship would make Saban the only coach to with one at three different schools. If Alabama wanted Saban as much as Texas, why haven't they locked him up?

At the end of the day Texas may offer him more then Alabama in terms of facilities, resources, money, legacy, quality of life, ect...

Then why hasn't nick signed the contract extension?

You don't understand how this works. Texas, nor anyone else, has made Nick a formal offer going through the university. Nick just signed a contract last year, the raise was just a token symbol of "we appreciate the season, if no one calls about hiring you we're giving you a raise anyway"

Do you think for one second that Bill Battle expected Nick Saban to sign that contract? Child please, that was his way of saying "we're here to play ball"

Texas will make a formal offer. Bama will match it. Texans and Louisianans will wonder how the frick Allybammer has enough money to match mighty Texas, and Saban will begin watching film on West Virginia while his wife counts money

Your hope is amazing.

For LSU it is a wash, at best. We probably face as tough, or tougher time recruiting against Saban at UT than we do at UAT.

With the playoffs coming, there's a good chance that both teams could make regular appearances (assume we finish turning this young potential into "performers"), beginning as early as 2014 or 2015, regardless if Saban stays or goes.

Bama on the other hand, has to really be hoping that he is "too damn old" to go elsewhere, because Texas wins the bidding war - should they choose to win it.

Well in fairness it was pretty easy to believe considering the state of the economy and that fact that Obama is one of the worst presidents ever.

but all of the other polling said it was crying time for mittens.

He's currently the only one to win one at two different schools...

Is he not the only coach to have won at two different schools? I get that Texas could be another challenge, but let's not pretend that he isn't already a HOFer and close to one of the all-time greats.

Because Mack isn't gone yet

So there's no offer from Texas

If Saban was so solid to Bama, he would've signed the contract extension. Texas shouldn't have even come into the picture. There's nothing Bama fans can say that can dispute that.

Odds are that he winds up at Bama but I think it's far from a done deal either way.

Saban will not get formal offer until Mack has officially resigned

I highly doubt this. I think Mack being forced out is dependant on Saban coming otherwise they keep Brown on as coach.

No doubt he does. I don't think they are ready for prime time, either.

He is only one to win at two schools but Urban may match him in coming years.

The contract extension he would get after the Texas offer would be greater than the extension he would receive before the offer.

Alabama did everything they needed to get Saban out of Miami.

What makes you think UT can't do the same?

And don't give me the "he wanted to go back to college crap". Saban was no THAT bad of a NFL coach. Had an 8-8 season and a very lucrative contact while living in Miami.

Bama was dead set on getting Saban. And they did what it took. Everyone has a price.

What makes some people think Texas won't get him if they are willing to do what it takes and not except no for an answer?

Don't necessarily agree. There are other big-name coaches they'd be willing to back the Brinks truck up to if they felt they couldn't land Saban for whatever reason.

I 100% believe everything you have written is true. imo (ok, based on sources but I am very reluctant to say that w/o naming them) both ut and saban want a deal. mack's handling is the only obstacle because if he refuses (and it will be very lucrative money wise for him to go along) they (ut) just may not have the balls (collectively) to fire him. the university's faculty and large academic donors are not happy about what the football program is doing to their image. they largely don't give a shite about how many games any coach wins or loses.

I guess that explains the pay-cut he took.

Yeah, but nobody questions that Meyer will at least match that. He's not even 50, yet.
