How does potential HC longevity factor into the coaching search?

How big of a role do you think this plays into the coaching search and to what extend should it? For example, Its viewed that Herman would eventually want to give the NFL a shot. That'd probably put him as LSU's coach for 4-5 years give or take. The feeling is that a guy like Jimbo would be here for a lot longer (assuming successful).

Do you pick your #1 guy even though you think he will leave relatively quickly or do you go with your #2 who you think isn't as good but see him as a "college coach" who would be at your program over a decade.

Obviously, there are no guarantees to how long any coach would stay or how much success he could have. You could get a guy like Jimbo and have success, but never win a championship when Herman could of gotten you 2 or 3 in less time, or the opposite could happen where Herman just doesn't find his stride and jimbo gets you multiple ships and a decade of success.
