Well I guess so too. ANs I guess I am really vocal defending him because to be honest I think a large segment of the fan base has not treated him right and tried to make him a joke ever since he got here. So I guess part of me is embarrassed by our own people.

I agree here too. That's why, if he DID really want to "live it out" here at LSU, I think he could have talked to Skip early on Monday morning, and put something very comfortable in the works while the getting was good! It sure sounded like Skip was up for that! I'm okay with the fact that down at the core, he ( and probably his family) would rather go home. I just feel sad about the "timing and circumstances", which I will always believe played a part in the outcome of that game on Friday, and MAN! I really hope not again this Saturday!!

The best thing I can say about the posts on this thread is that it seems most people support Miles as our coach and his "conflict" between the MI job and staying at LSU.
I hope Les stays. He is the type of person that we should want coaching and mentoring student athletes...teaching them more about life after football than the wins/losses of the game. Miles has character, credibility and loyalty. He is a players coach...and I like that. He may not be the best public speaker, he may not be the best "game day" strategist, but he is a good coach. He recruits well, and he is interested in doing the right things for the right reasons. That's enough for me to want him around for a long time, and I'll take the wins he gets as icing on the cake.

It is nice to finally hear some really truth from people about the Les Miles predicament. He is a man torn and a man that also knows what his obligations and priorities are. Unfortunately, the press did not allow his statements to stand for themselves. Did it hurt LSU's NCG hopes?? Maybe and possibly and probably. Playing in the afternoon and being Senior Day probably didn't help. Maybe it was just a "perfect storm" and really rotten luck all rolled into one.
Whatever, I'm/we're really, really sorry about the loss Friday and what it meant for us all.

Me too, Bayou. I have called in numerous times to the radio shows here only to defend Miles. Nothing else has ever spurred me to do that. But I believe that I can still really like this guy, and support him, but be honest enough to think that any suspicions about his employment would affect a bunch of emotional athletes at the end of a very tough season with high expectations on the line. I am not insisting that he should have said anything different. I am simply observing that what he was able to say last Monday (and he get's big points for being honest and decent about it) wasn't enough to keep the mystical, national championship chemistry intact. I think Skip knew that, and tried to say what he could to help, too. I am not bashing at all. And I think that Les has always gotten a bad rap in Baton Rouge. I will be very sorry if he goes, but I do think that is where his heart is, and right now I am just "sorrier" that this team's NC dream was derailed by this whole distraction.

I have gone and relooked at that game. If it affected his team I am having a difficult time pinpointing what players it affected. It seems to be everyone was playing lights out and hard to the point of real pain

I know Bayou. I think they did EVERYTHING they phyiscally could, too. I am not putting the fault anywhere, really. But the relationship between any coach and their athletes is unlike any other on earth. In ways it surpasses the parent/child relationship. Let's just agree that I think the "job speculation" had an effect on the team's "psyche", and you don't. I think that even Les Miles himself thought that it wouldn't, so that puts you in pretty good company!

Who in Heaven's name is going to coach the team if that occurs. The players are close to Pelini and Miles?
Coach Peveto? COach Stud Coaching the Sugar Bowl?

Crowton!!
Not that he is the best but he at least has some HC experience.

I'm sorry to hear you take the loss personally. I am sad too, but mostly for the young men out there that committed themselves to my school and my team, and had to see the ultimate goal slip away at such a painful time. I do feel sincerely heartbroken for them all, especially the seniors. I never, ever think that a football game is more about the fans than the players...That said, I hope all the more that they are able to bring back an SEC Championship trophy to LSU as testimony to the greatest group of guys I can ever remember cheering for!

My reference to I/we includes Miles, the players, the Golden Band from Tigerland, cheerleaders, etc. and everybody who has put their heart and soul into LSU football every day and every year. It's the players who deserve the accolades and the recognition. It's the Coaches who catch the flack as it should be. They are the adults.
Let's kick butt in Atlanta and show everybody!!

Michigan is too much of a class act to turn Miles down publically. When and if Miles is turned down, he will make a statement that he officially withdraws his name from consideration and he is staying at LSU. Happens every year with coaches. It's what they do.
But frankly, I think UM hires him.
If Miles was not interested, he would have taken his name out of consideration before last week.
Still nothing.

Crowton has coached at BYU and LA Tech as Head Coach. He's fully capable of coaching us in one game.

I'll be highly surprised if Les Miles is not the new Michigan coach.

The point: If UM goes in a different direction, how does Miles explain why he didn't emphatically deny interest in the UM job like Bob Stoops did?
All he can do is say nothing, tell the truth or lie. Saying nothing is probably the best option.
It's clear that the truth is that Miles does want the Michigan job. He "loves" Michigan more than he "loves" LSU or this team. He's more into Michigan than he's into LSU. Many ways to say it but it all boils down to the same thing.
Now, if Michigan doesn't offer him and he stays, it's hard to gauge what the level of damage will be. Some coaches may use it in negative recruiting against him (son, CM may be telling you how great LSU is, but he himself has shown he would rather be somewhere else) but I don't really see it as being too damaging. After all, I don't think we compete head to head with Michigan in recruiting that often.

quote:Eloquent and beautifully said. At the end of the day, I am not really so angry at Coach Miles as I am disappointed with Bo Pelini for being human and (in my opinion) for making an error at a crucial moment (OT, no-pressure call). But it's done and nothing will undo it.
I hope all the more that they are able to bring back an SEC Championship trophy to LSU as testimony to the greatest group of guys I can ever remember cheering for!
Actually as I've read along this thread it's hit me that Coach Miles could be leaving and that I will miss him a the helm of LSU. He's grown on my over these three short years, and he's certainly lead these guys a long way, built on Saban and DiNardo's foundation, and set new heights for our Tigers. In many ways, I think his shoes may be even harder to fill than those of his predecessor, and that is mainly because he is a class act, a truly good man, and a pretty good old ball coach. But he needs to do what is best for him, and if he leaves, he leaves LSU a better place than when he came.
But stay or leave, the Tigers go on.
