Herman also was the O coordinator when Ohio State's 3rd string QB skullfricked Alabama. Tiebreaker broken, comparison over. This post was edited on 11/25 at 10:39 am

you realize Sumlin was an assistant at Oklahoma from 2003-2007 right? when they went to like 2 national championships and were in the hunt every year. hardly a tiebreaker in favor of herman

Wait, do you think Herman took over after Sumlin went to A@M? Wow now I see why you want O.

Pete Carroll and Bill Belichik had awful records as NFL coaches, both even got fired. In no way saying O is either of those guys, but people can learn and mature as coaches.

took 19 posts for someone to post some sense. the hot name is always gonna be popular to the fanbase but if we throw a ton of money at Herman there's nothing to say he's gonna do a better job than Orgeron could do

You are aware that Sumlin and Herman have two different philosophies right.
Herman wants a physical downhill running game first and foremost.

Sumlin wants an air raid. End of comparison

Sumlin did not call plays at Oklahoma.

Can be said about every job position open in any occupation on Earth, so it isn't exactly groundbreaking insight.

Honest question: from what coaching tree is Sumlin?

I know Herman was with Urban. That means he has learned from one of the best, most balanced ( meaning values offense AND defense)

Is Sumlin from the air raid types that ignore defense?

Also, Herman got Ed Oliver to Houston. Pretty big

it wouldn't be hard for Herman to do better than Orgerons record as a HC in the SEC

i just like how our team has been playing since O took over. sure we had miscues via Etling in the Bama game and turnovers and Fournette n Beckwith being out cost us the Florida game. but it isnt like our offense hasnt improved dramatically since O took over. we just scored 53 against A&M. defense played great vs Bama and Florida. what more do we need to fix. execution and qb play. recruit a non "dual threat" QB and let coach O keep doin what he's done with an entire offseason to prepare

They're totally different coaching styles. Sumlin is a players coach with a free flowing practice style and game plan. Herman is more regimented and process oriented.
