"I am using external resources," Brandon said in an e-mail.

Using a search firm allows an athletic director to contact coaches through a third party, thus showing a bit of discretion.

Search firms are not a part of the decision-making process, but they often do the legwork, gauging interest of potential candidates employed by other schools.

Hmm...

Of course, the fact that Michigan or anyone connected to Michigan has yet to formally or informally speak to the athletic director regarding Miles means, literally, nothing. That’s why coaches have agents, and why schools hire search firms.

Bet your bottom dollar that Miles, Brandon and Miles' agent (George Bass) will be meeting tonight or tomorrow either in Dallas or in Baton Rouge. Brandon is in Dallas now and Miles has to return to Dallas at some point for a conference where he's giving a speech on Tuesday.

There will be a meeting and it will be very soon.

Miles may be right in that Michigan hasn't contacted him. But you can bet your arse "someone" contaced "someone" on his behalf.

Hopefully Alleva's search firm has already contacted Mullen to gauge his interest before LSU formally asks to speak to him.

Once they line up an interview they will have to contact Alleva to get permission. I think sometimes this is in a coaches contract (Tubberville Petrino situation) and other times is more of a respect for the other school thing.

We will know when he interviews b/c at that point it is public record and under the freedom of information act the press will have access to the list of candidate interviews. This is the difference between a public vs private school.
