Why does everyone assume we are getting hammered?

Malzahn is a very good coach, and is argueably the best OC in the country. Whatever success AU has had can be attributed more to him than Chizik. His offense won't be as good next year because the o-line won't be as good and they'll probably loose Cam.
They could've lost 4 games this year with Cam, so it will be interesting to see how many wins they have next year. With all that being said, Auburn will have one of the better SEC offenses next year assuming Gus is on the plains next year.

If he is smart he will leave. That offense is not much without Cam.
Without Cam last year, Auburn ranked 16th in the country in Total Offense

Because you are? The NCAA has already acknowledged you guys had an illegible player. Thats not sitting well with a lot of conference presidents and school presidents. There is going to be a shitstorm if nothing happens. Careers have been derailed in the NCAA for far less. You still don't get it barner. It's really sad.

The NCAA hates coaches and schools that thumb their noses at them. Thanks to Calipari's dirty rep and their warnings about Derrick Rose, despite the fact that they cleared him initially, the NCAA camped out at Memphis for an entire year to dig for dirt. In the end, all they got Memphis for was a secondary for some travel expenses that Rose's brother didn't pay back. But, they did rule Rose ineligible and Memphis' runner up season went out the window. Memphis even had to pay back the money they got from the tourney.
The moral of this story: once the NCAA sets its sights on you, watch out. They will dig until they find something, and in pretty much any BCS program, there will be some skeleton hiding in some closet.
As for Malzahn, he should jump on the first great offer he gets. That has nothing to do with probation or eligibility, but just common sense. Think back to AU's own recent past. I remember when Noel Mazone was the next hot head coaching prospect. He waited for the better offer, and Tubby threw him under the bus a couple of years later when things went south a bit. You don't wait. If you get a solid BCS offer, you take the money and leave. End of story.
