C-, he doesn't scare me. he could end up being a great hire, but a very risky hire for florida imo.

I hate seeing Muschamp go. I think he COULD be a great coach given time, but I don't really think Florida fans are going to want to give him the time to learn the job.

He's a big name, but so far just a name. I do like his fire and drive, but fire and drive aren't the same thing as X's and O's.

I for incomplete. Waiting on word on the rest of the staff, especially OC, to determine a grade.

I agree. C or C-. UF should not be a testing ground for guys with no HC experience.

This. UGA is the training ground for meager resumes.

D-

Florida really screwed themselves up with this.

I would expect a Georgia Tech or Texas A&M school to make a hire like this, not Florida.

Big negatives that I see

1) Dude has ZERO head coaching experience! UF is fine with this?

2) While he is a very "rah-rah" type of guy, I never really saw anything during his time at UT that said "wow, this guy is gonna be great!" He's solid, I admit, but nothing that puts him over the Petrino and Harbaugh's of the college football landscape?

3) Recruiting is supposedly one of his stronger suits, but UF doesn't have to do very much to get the top level athletes at their program.

4) UF has historically been about out dueling you on offense - the school seems to always get great young talent on offense that gives the SEC fits. Now, you're changing to a defensive-minded coach/philosophy.

I don't know - I just think he's going to be average at best, which is totally unacceptable for their program.

over/under = 3 years and then he's gone. Maybe Malzahn will be available then.

I feel bad for him because he's succeeding a guy who won two NCs in six years. Lots of inherent expectations for a guy with no HC experience.

I'd give the hire a B though. Make him hire a good OC and I like his chances for success.

You never want to be the guy to replace a legend. You want to be the guy who replaces the guy who replaced the legend.

All this "no HC experience" talk is overrated. Do you really think being a HC at a Utah or a Boise is that much marginally better than being a top coordinator at 3 premire schools, 2 of which went to the National Championship game? I think that's a wash. He can recruit, he's aggressive, he's an SEC guy (which is more important in my opinion than whether he was an HC at some middling school). There's some risk no doubt, and a lot will depend on his staff. Major Applewhite as OC would scare me - THAT is a bigger risk to me than promoting a top DC to HC.

If you wanted a young-ish defensive minded guy, I can think of several with head coaching skins on the wall:

- Gary Patterson
- Gene Chizik
- Charlie Strong
- Kevin Sumlin
- Troy Calhoun

You're FLORIDA. You should be able to hire any of those guys.

+1

Mullen or Leach made the most sense to me.

A+ for an LSU fan, especially since they are our permanent East opponent. I like it!

I dont get how everyone on here is saying Muschcamp is a bad hire for FL when last year everyone was clamoring for LSU to fire Miles and hire Muschcamp.

Because Urban Meyer is an elite football coach. To alot of people, only a handful of coaches it seems would have the cachet good enough to fill Meyer's shoes. I understand where some folk are coming from though. UF is a job with a lot of pressure and insatiable fans.

As far as Miles, there will always be a clique of fans who never wanted him here and still don't want him here and it has nothing to do with results, regardless of what they say. He's just not the hero they expect the LSU football coach to be for them. So, they will want alot of coaches over Les.

What kills me though is how upset LSU fans seem to be. It's as they are disappointed, like they wanted UF to hire Saban or something, someone who has won national titles.

I think its gonna end up being a Homerun. Right now it's only speculation. Remember what 99% of people thought of the Chizik hire?

So I wont give a grade until the "pupil" actually finishes at least a few years of the "course".

Time will tell.

B- A good not great hire but we can't say for sure till a couple years from now. My brother in law is a die hard Florida fan and he is very unhappy with the hire.

If I'm not mistaken, most of that talk was when we were still suffering through the two headed monster at DC.

Regarding the Chizk comment, while it may seem silly after a national championship run, I think the jury is still out for the long haul. How would this situation look without Newton and GM?
