Tuesday is a magical day..
All hires will likely be made next week, after coaches finish their games etc.

It hasn't been that long at all (relative to past coaching searches), though judging from the wording of your post, you're obviously quite young

In regard to arky, you would think they have had ample time to gauge candidates, AU should have been working the back channels since mid October!

Back channels?
You know not all coaches are like Petrino or Franchione. Many great coaches will not answer calls or grant interviews and will only focus on their current season until it ends. Shocking, I know.

Then why do coaches have agents? The agents do the negotiating and play the back channel game. When a university and a coach finally talk, it's almost a done deal. The face-to-face interview would have to go radically wrong for the deal to fall apart then.

Isn't there some big coaches meeting going on in NYC next week? I'd expect a lot of hirings after that.

I mean this in a non flame way. You simply do not hire a coach during the season. Most hires will happen while coaches are preparing for their bowl games. Even if a coach is playing in a conference championship game, he would(or should) wait until his regular season is over and bowl game prep has begun.
We should see a lot of hires happening after this weekend.

AFCA is after bowl games. Professional courtesy is you don't talk to coaches about vacancies until season is over. Especially if your coach or theirs is under contract.
If you break the code you usually get screwed in some deals involving other sports.
