For all the of the job openings, everyone has been fairly conservative

I was expecting chaos and what we have seen so far is a lot of "meh" moves. Not a lot of risk has been taken so far in the hirings. Promotions from within, guys making small splashes at uninspiring schools, a lot of Alums returning home, etc.
Really there's only 3 "football" jobs open right now, USCe, Mizzou, and Miami.
I guess the real carnage will be at the non-P5 level where a lot of guys who thought they were in line for a big boy job will settle for a project job.
Hoping that Mizzou really lights up the news this week, but I dare not expect it

could it be that salaries are stabilizing and that coaches can stay put and still make a lot of money, and/or schools can pay less to hire a coordinator or non-P5 coach...

7-10 years+ at a smaller p5 school could be a better risk/reward...than more money but greater expectations/higher risk of firing at a high profile job..especially a rebuilding one
....average compensation over total career vs highest compensation per annum (but shorter duration) etc
even on a buyout adjusted basis (fired from higher profile job)..the total compensation over time could be higher in gross dollar terms at a smaller/lower expectation program
career stability vs chasing major championships...

Too many jobs and not enough Wow candidates. Bad year to be looking for a coach. Schools like SC are screwed. The best that will grab the best candidates are UGA and the U. Mizzou might end up ok but no better than Pinkel for sure.

This.
Miami might be the most overrated football head coaching job in the country. The fan support is lagging, their support from the school administration is nonexistent, their facilities are a mess, and they have a very outspoken cadre of former players who have a penchant for being morons, not to mention the fact that they're 3rd fiddle in their state and 2nd fiddle in their own town to the Dolphins.
All they have going for them is history and recruiting footprint, but this isn't 1985 and programs all around the country are mining South Florida for talent now.
