ferentz has a big buyout, i believe
i don't get why they'd target him over a tedford or miles
but, michigan mods say he has absolutely no buyout clause in his contract.

yea but most over there also feel he's not a serious candidate

I looked at Ferentz's contract and there was nothing in there that I could find that said anything about a buyout. Of course the copy of the contract that is posted may not be complete.

Michigan is not likely to take Ferentz, it would be unseemly to raid another BT school and Michigan would consider that "improper."
He is a great defensive coach, maybe one of the best, but never was able to put together much of an offense.
Rich Rodriguez is a more likely candidate or Jeff Tedford. Bill Martin will make the hire, but there are others guiding this selection. They will make calls, they will feel people out, but there won't be much overt happening until candidates' seasons are over. Michigan does not want to interfere with another school's season.
Michigan has known since Sept. that Lloyd was leaving. They haven't contacted anyone. Lloyd was leaving last year and they asked him to stay. He did, but most think his health is not good (some say Parkinson's) and he wanted out at the first opportunity.
This is big time, big money college football. If you want to cash those big checks from CBS then they are going to stick a microphone in your face anytime they like, they paid for the right. Lloyd and Michigan did not start this. There is no formal list, they are just now trying to form a search committee. The stirring is coming from the media guys who don't have much to talk about right now (no USC, no OK, no OSU, no TX -- they have make stories out of Mizzou, KS, AZ St....it is making them crazy). Give them another story and this will be over. Quite likely that other story will also involve LSU, 'cause Nebraska is also looking.
You guys are loaded and every good young coach would want to be there. You'll get the pick of the litter. That is a good thing. You don't really want to stagnate like Michigan, or Penn State, or Tenn or Fla. St. do you? Believe me you don't we have just spent 20+ years recycling the same old thing. A fresh infusion of talent is what keeps you sharp, hungry and winning. Embrace the success, you could be foundering like Miami.

I didn't know Ferentz was a defensive coach. That's news to me....and probably him.
