His ND salary is unknown so this whole argument is a nonstarter. Dude couldve been making $4m or $9m....who knows

No- weeks of "negotiating" either means he wasn't getting offered enough from ND (no matter what his current salary) , or he wasn't really engaging because his reasons for leaving and going to LSU weren't (mainly) about the $$ amount.

But my larger point is that I think it's just more proof that BK really was in the works and maybe even tied down by SW weeks ago.

ETA: And I say that as someone who never had much faith in SW to get it done.

I’m gonna say I feel fairly confident that the Lincoln stuff was never that real with the more info we get

There’s no way Kelly is playing 2nd fiddle in a search, even greater point is that there’s no way Kelly is taking 9.5 a year if Riley was offered 12.5 a year

Feel bad for them for this year if you must, but they're probably going to hire Fickell or Campbell, so they'll be more than OK in the long run.

one other thing we can put to bed in all of this...The Vegas odds in coaching searches mean absolutely nothing, they're for entertainment purposes.

The more I'm thinking about this the more this seems less likely. If Kelly was the target all along then OU and OSU losing on Saturday would throw in wrench in if ND was going to get into the playoffs. All the sudden they turned into legit candidates to get into the playoffs and could've definitely caused Woodward and Kelly to have some pause

TBL is the one I'm questioning now...

TBL seems to be sticking to his original story. I'm assuming he either is a big money booster, or runs in the same circles.

I'm going with there was such a dearth of information that assumptions were made that Riley was the top target. Some of them may have gotten legit information that Woodward had his guy and going back to the first assumption, assumed that meant he got Riley.

Before O was even fired, IotaTiger alluded to Riley being the top target, so his name was definitely out there early in those booster circles.

its honestly a safe assumption that BK reached out to LSU before they reached out to him. hes a very calculated guy. this is one of those situations where the AD will get all the credit, but BK was looking to leave ND and LSU was his target

May also be a good point. SW being able to keep things air tight isn't too shocking. Usually the coaches reps begin leaking info start the bidding war but nothing here. Probably points to Kelly saying "I want that job, go hammer out the deal."

The cynic in me says this doesn't mean his agent didn't, but I agree this had to be in the works for a bit.

Scone is by far and away the biggest fool of this.

The morning radio guys were level-headed and saw the big picture---Scone went full retard.

Eager to hear how he tries to save face today

No doubt. You simply DO NOT pivot and scramble and land Brian Kelley in 3 days. It's preposterous to even think.

Indeed...also explains why there was never any word from Woodward on all the rumors.

I believe Scott felt the pressure a little and announced Kelly as early as he did. It is sad that ND didn't have their coach in the post season but that's life!

The Notre Dame football program and hence their fans, get every break in the book when it comes to name benefits. much the same as Alabama does in the SEC. i’m not going to waste any feelings on them. In fact, they are due to have their feelings hurt especially by LSU.

yeah again Lincoln spurning us doesn't make a lick of sense when you know they share the same agent and see the contract numbers

its just not plausible Trace would come back and be like

quote:

Trace: Please, I admitting it, okay? I fricked you there. There's no way around it. It was verrry sneaky. Kind of like Pearl Harbor. Okay? That was a little sneaky too, huh? Pearl Harbor kind of sneaky; I think we can all be a rittle sneaky sometimes, hm? But that sneaky Riley man? He's gone! Okay? But Brian Kelly wants to come, lets talk

Scott: Against my better judgment, I will trust you one more time. But this time, you'd better not rub your hands together when you turn around to walk away.

Precisely correct.

The biggest indication that we had our new coach in place was the issuance of new offers to 2022 recruits last week (prior to the Bedlam game and the perceived "Riley fiasco"). No head coach is walking into a situation where someone else is making the recruiting decisions for him.

When Martell Harris (LB) was offered people saw offers from Baylor and OU and made an assumption that the new coach was one of Aranda or Stinking Lincoln (props to the originator of that nickname), but did not notice that ND offer.

LSU also offered another LB, Jimmy Rolder - a Michigan commit last week.

These offers indicate that time had been expended reviewing roster and the present commitment list with an eye towards program's future needs and someone green-lighted the extensions of those offers. Only the HC green-lights offers. Ergo, there had been a hiring.

I think Woody told Walker Howard to take a recruiting trip to ND to meet his next coach.

What he said doesn’t say that he expected the school though. Just that he noticed the detachment/cues that typically coincide with a coach getting done with a place.

You can get that with zero specific plans
