Doug Belk - DC

I’m not sure who the HC is going to be, but I hope they take a look at Doug Belk as the DC.
He has taken Houston from #80-#52-#5 in defense.
He could help secure the Houston area which has been rich with success at LSU.
Not sure what type of defense he runs. Can anyone fill us in?

I'd hoped no one would ever mention this guy...Really want him at UF.

He runs a 4-2-5 multiple

I’m assuming that means he is using 3-3-5 as well.
LSU has been running a lot of 4-3 lately because Jones is so good in space.
I’d like a coach who can be flexible based on his personnel.

You’re missing the headline here, and it’s that Dana Holgerson should be at the top of the second tier

Dana is an offensive guru. Yet their defense is eating people up. I think their offense is ranked in the 50s.

Is that a bad thing?
Holgerson identified and hired Belk, and is adjusting to not being able to put up 40 on everyone with what he has at the moment?
That’s exactly what people want to see from Riley or Kiffin.
Holgerson’s offense would be just fine with Walker Howard. He’s also proven he can prioritize defense and hire assistants to help on that side of the ball.
Houston at 10-1 playing for the AAC Championship against Fickell should have everyone’s attention.

Mike Jones (Who?) is essentially a better JaCoby Stevens imo

I think Dana purposefully chose Tilman U and isn't leaving again.

Another guy that will probably get some looks as a DC is Jim Knowles at Okie State. Guy has turned that defense around and they are top 5 in the country right now. No idea on whether he has interest in leaving there or not, but just an observation based on the continuous improvement they've shown since he arrived.

That’s definitely a possibility.
But I do think he has the itch to compete at the highest level, which is why I think he chose to leave WVU. Once it became clear that the move to the Big 12 killed WVU’s ability to really compete, he sought out a job where he could go to get his name back into circulation.
He’s done that at UH, and while I think it would take a really confident AD to bring him into a top job right now, I could absolutely see him moving to Baylor or Ole Miss if those open up to then work his way up to an LSU or Florida type job.
I think that’s actually his plan.
If he knocks off Cincinnati and Fickell in two weeks, they’ll be heavy underdogs I imagine, he will definitely be getting P5 looks.

Baylor and Houston are about to be in the same conference. He’s already had an OM-type job and retreated. He’s staying at UH for a while.

He’s incredible, I’ve been keeping an eye on him. I really want David Reeves from UAB personally.
