Just curious if Haley is promoted to DC and Orgeron is the DL coach is that still an upgrade in your eyes? I think adding a guy like Orgeron for the recruiting aspect would be huge and the guy can coach the talent just look at his record.

the fact that brick haley has never been seriously considered for a DC job at a quality school is kind of worrisome

I would say that's a slight downgrade from Chavis. O would be a great addition...but would not be very impressed with Haley.

He's still young at 48 too though. Has a solid 20-25 years left in his career.

What if Haley and O co Coordinated?

I'd say its an unknown.

It COULD be a win. But, it is less certain than an experienced DC + Haley or O.

It is the uncertainty that causes the angst.

My GUESS is that it would work out well. But, I am an optimist.

I would be happy with it. The more I reflect on Chavis the less impressed I am with his last few years here. Honestly, his scheme amounted to match up and beat your guy 1 on 1. His scheme was very basic and was often picked apart in the fourth quarter (time after fricking time )

I feel like bring O in at all costs...try out Haley for a year.

This is how I want it if Haley is promoted.

I think it's the only way we get O on the staff

Better than a lot of the other alternatives I have seen posited on this board.

Best of both worlds. Brick brings this era to an end with the quickness, Bebe loads the cupboard up with recruits for the next guy.

I really think the drop off in the defense will be more about personel. We need O because we need to find a way to keep our recruiting classes top 10 every year. This is getting harder.

Then O can handle D line and everybody wins.

100% yes with no argument. This game is about recruiting. 50% of recruits have picked their favorite by the 10th grade... they "love that school." So the battle is for the other 50%. Get the best recruits and coaches somehow become brilliant... Haley gives us continuity. Orgeron gives us fresh, Cajun blood and a great fit... A little like Bum Phillips being a coach with the Houston Oilers back in the day. "It just made sense." Orgeron at LSU makes so much sense for the recruiting trail that it will probably never happen.

Total Defense rank when Hailey was DC at Baylor:
1999: 102
2000: 109
2001: 88

It will in no way be an upgrade.

15 years ago? When Saban was struggling for 10 wins seasons at LSU?

People get groomed and get better over time. I'm sure Haley has learned quite a bit over the years.

If Haley moves to his natural position coach at LBer with the DC and O takes over DL then it could be a positive. Recruiting would definitely take up a notch.

With the new rule coming up where you can add another coach....

Move Brick to LBs
Orgeron to DL
Shoop as DC

Orgeron or someone else can go to admin role until the new coach rule kicks in.

We've done the "promote from within" before....how did that work out?

Unbelievable that we would not hire a proven DC.
