Were they concerned that he would impress as interim, thus resulting HC offers from other schools and taking Jimbo/Herman's DC away? Only reason why they would promote Orgeron over him IMO

Probably because O has been in the HC and interim HC position before. Aranda hasn't.

How do we know who they'd hire? I get Herman has ties to Aranda, but Todd Orlando is building a nice rep as DC as well. Fisher has hired some good DC's, maybe he'd keep Aranda, maybe he has someone else in mind. either way, Aranda will not be a DC for much longer if he does desire to be a HC.

Aranda has a legitimate future as a P5 head coach and is young. They're missing a golden opportunity to give him a tryout and keep him for themselves

If Herman leaves they should at least consider promoting orlando

I would think either Orlando or Applewhite is getting that job if he leaves
