I was all for bringing him in as Co-DC run game coordinator/DL coach if Pelini somehow kept his job
But not to run his own defense. He basically got fired by Saban mid year his final season at Alabama and Pete Golding took over play-calling duties

I’d hire him as a LB coach and pay him out the arse for his recruiting abilities, but wouldn’t make him the DC. I’d take him over Mason FWIW, but there’s 6-7 possible guys we could get I’d take over him:
Nielson
Brad White
Freeman
Odom
Golding(if Pruitt get fired I’d imagine Saban replaces)

It seems Les and O have had kind of the same philosophy in the position grouping they want their DC to coach — linebackers
Obviously Lupoi could coach DL at a high level as well, but you could probably get Bo Davis without “paying out the arse” and not worry about him jumping to a promotion in a year or two.

Bo Davis is going to be the DL coach and he’ll recruit out the arse and so will Raymond, but having Lupoi as well gives you 3 of the best recruiters at their position in the country and you can either hire a DC who can recruit well and have the best defensive coaching staff at recruiting of all time or just a DC whose main focus is scheme and play calling and still be really solid on the recruiting end.

Can't forget Coach O is one of the all time recruiters. So the DC hire needs to just focus on scheme.

Lupoi is only returning to college to be a DC, or at least that’s his plan

Lupoi has a long wait then if he's wanting a DC gig. I'd get him on staff as a LB coach.
