My guess is that they sent out feelers to him (or more accurately, his agent) and he said he wasn't interested in pursuing any other jobs at the moment.

Of course I'm still holding out hope that we're negotiating with him backchannel and that all the Kiff talk is a smokescreen. Who knows at this point.
