I’ve decided to criticize each remaining candidate. The one with the criticism that is least worrisome should be our guy.

Guys NOT coming here
Matt Rhule- didn’t beat a ranked team at Baylor. No SEC experience.
Urban Meyer- dude won’t make it 3 more years before retiring. Baggage
Jimbo Fisher- Stone Age offense but can recruit and develop players well.
Chris Petersen- out of the game. No competitive drive left.
Brian Kelly- baggage. Old

Realistic candidates
Dave Aranda- inexperienced. Is it Rhule’s team or his? Offense is worrisome.
Luke Fickell- sucked in his only big time gig as interim.
Matt Campbell- cultural worries about fit. Is he really ready to go big in the sec? Or will he be like mullen and recruit like he is at Iowa state still?
Lane Kiffin- baggage and strong connection to O. Defense sucks every year too

The “we fricked up” the search guys
Mark Stoops- boring offense, not a great recruiter, barely mediocre in a horrible sec East.
Bill O’Brien- worse bama offense since mcelwain. Poor judge of talent. fricking hideous to look at.
Joe Brady- offense was all based on first round talents. Would be Jake Peetz as a HC without Ensminger to help him. No experience.

The “frick it name an interim and try next year guys”
Dave clawson
Gus Malzahn
Hugh freeze
Dave doeren

If it gets past aranda/Fickell/Kiffin/Campbell, just take a chance and hire Mike Elko. At least the defense would be good.

I trust Woodward isn’t even considering BOB knowing what it’d do to recruiting in east Texas

I’d be fine with tFolder, Campbell (who is a hell of a coach), or Kiffy

Stoops is a good coach but man good luck selling that one to this fan base. It’s time to nail this fricking hire

Add Brian Kelly to the “we fricked up” list. You don’t hire a 60 year old man for a job in the SEC West pressure cooker without having been turned down by a few different candidates

Man I don’t know. He has been a hot name for almost every coaching search- including the Nfl

People questioning Campbell’s coaching chops are insane

Yea, legit questions over fit and elite recruiting but he might be the best pure coach on the market. I think a lot of both him and Dave in terms of their football acumen

Agreed.

I just don’t know if stoops is good at a big school. His track record at Kentucky in a pathetic East leads me to believe he would be mediocre.

I’d rather take a chance on a Mike Elko or coordinator type.

Why not add Tom Herman to the "frick it name an interim and try again next year" list. As bad as Sark is doing at Texas maybe Herman wasn't that bad. Give him a cheap contract with little buyout and lots of incentives. Would be better than Gus Malzahn for sure.

Not advocating for this. Just a thought if he punt down the road for our coach.

60 is not ThAT old. Sheesh. We aren’t making a 10-15 year hire here. Those days are over.

Hell, Urban is 57. Would you turn him down?

100% agree. People need to go back and see what Iowa state was before he got there. It was Seneca Wallace for a couple of years and a whole bunch of shite thereafter and before.

LSU recruits itself. My biggest worry is the NFL with Matt Campbell, but I’m willing to take that risk. The biggest risk with him outside of that is what I call the “mullen.” Where you recruit 3 star gems like you’re still at a small school.
