Chris Lowe said today that UGA is going strong after Kirby Smart.
He says Smart wants out from under Saban so he can have more freedom to run a Defense. He also said he's trying to decide if leaving is best or wait one more year for a Head Coaching job.

I heard this from a friend of a current position coach at GA. That position coach recommended to Richt to go afer KS.

When we went to Athens earlier this year, we tailgated with some UGA folks that are friends of one in my crew.

I asked one of them, is Richt gonna let Willie Martinez cost him his job?

He said they would fire Martinez, and target Smart(UGA grad)..because he needed to get out from under Saban to get DC and/or HC credibility.

This storyline may be new to some SEC folks..but to guys like Low, Barnhart, and the UGA faithful, Smart has been their main target all along.

Suicide if you ask me.

He very well could be one and done if Richt struggles again next year.

It's hard not to go back home though.

That's my thought. While UGA is home and he can get out of Saban's shadow, if they tank it could really hurt his chances to get a HC position any time soon. If you don't know if Richt will be there in a year or two than its really risky for an up and comer, and why its less of a big deal for a proven Chavis who isn't interested in a head job.

Furthermore, that means UGA will have to wait until after the NC game, because I seriously doubt he'll accept it before the game.

Why not take the Florida DC job? Better talent and probably more stable than UGA.

His heart is at Georgia being an alum, but if he is scared he might fail at UGA, then he isn't ready to be on his own. Most competitive coaches look at the opportunity and challenge as an added bonus. They are in the business because they are competitors.

If I was Richt and he voiced those concerns, I wouldn't want him. If Smart can do with Georgia's defense what Saban has done with Alabama's, he will prove himself. Georgia has plenty of talent. At least in the top 10 range, maybe even top 5 range.
