I dont know much about him, convice me as to why we want him

Don't want him either. Hes old, scheme is old and his defenses have been known for being soft, I don't a give shite what his ranking was this season. Hes had his fair share of problems at DC. Notoriously "soft" coverage packages that we need no more of. Knowing Miles, he'll go for this guy simply because its similar to what we play now, which is the problem.

I don't want him.
2007, the year we played them in the SECCG, Tennessee's defense was horrible.
They gave up an average of 403 yards a game as well as:
45 points to Cal
59 points to Florida
27 points to Arkansas State
41 points to Bama
50 points to Kentucky

I want Chavis only if Albert Haynesworth decides to play college football again...

Why?
When was the last time Tennessee was known for having a stout defense? The '98 season?
He was beat by the UCLA's third string quarterback this year and was embarrassed by Cal last year.
Chavis is one of those bend-don't-break philosophy guys. I'm tired of it.
I want my mean, aggressive, pumped up, knock you off the line, in your face defense back.
He can come, though, if he brings Eric Berry with him.

I'd let Barbara Walters coach the defense if it meant Eric Berry came with her

I don't care. That guy is incredible.
I'd take him for a year over 3 years of most of what we have now, honestly. we've got some talented guys but Berry is a rare breed.

I'd take him in heartbeat. He already has schemes for the sec. It would be a safe hire. Miles wouldn't be taking a big risk with some guy that's doing great in a smaller conference. The new cood would have to come up with schemes for every game next year. Chavis' D is in the top 20 even though UT has a losing record which tells me his players don't quit.

This would be such a terrible hire.

Living up here in Knoxville, I can tell you that he runs a similar defense to Pelini. Soft coverage, no pressure from the defensive line. He has gotten criticized for the same things Pelini was criticized for: No attacking defense, bend don't break, soft coverage etc. He is almost 60 as well. I give a resounding NO to Chavis.
