My friend, who is a current player at LSU, told me that Chavis is staying because LSU is a damn strong football team

But, on a serious note.
Unfortunately, these days the players usually hear a coach is leaving the day before he takes the next job. So players won't really be an indicator. That said it's fairly obvious that Chavis intends to stay at this point.
