It's probably not fair but I think the outside perception of Arkansas is like something between Dogpatch and Deliverance.

I'm not casting aspersions - Louisiana is probably looked at by outsiders like a cross between Waterboy and The Big Easy (with a little Everbody's All American thrown in). But I think at least with us, they get an impression of the whole Mardi Gras,Purple and Gold Uniforms, etc. colorfulness that kind of lets some light shine through the negative stereotypes.

Maybe you guys need a new mascot and more colorful uniforms.

Muschamp should be the guy now IMO. Paul Johnson is off the board and I don't really see any more realistic current HC options.

Ummm...going from Auburn to Arkie is lateral?

Recruiting: Average/Good

Recruiting in Arkansas is terrible. High School football for the most part in Arkansas is not very good therefore recruiting sucks.

I don't know about that. It's not what some of the other states are, but if Nutt was able to recruit and retain every top player in the state the way, for example, LSU does with Louisiana, they would be a lot more competitive. The problem is that Nutt has a poor reputation among high school coaches in the state, and therefore many of the best players do not attend Arkansas.

I would say the states of Oklahoma and Tennessee have as bad if not worse high school football than Arkansas, but the difference is that their coaches are not afraid to cross state lines and go after prime recruits. Arkansas will have to hope that its next coach is another up-and-comer like Bob Stoops who can achieve something like that.

The common misperception is that Arkansas ran off Nutt because of wins and losses. It had more to do with his and his inner circle's unethical behavior surrounding the Mustain incident and his poor recruiting, than anything else.

I actually think the Arkansas fans will be very patient with the new coach in light of the horrible roster he will inherit from Nutt.

No, Arkie offered Nutt a raise and he turned them down

Arkansas produces plenty of top line players. Mustain, ben cleveland, damian williams, mcfadden, hillis, broderick green who went to usc, kodi burns who went to auburn, slick shelley at tennessee. you just have to go elsewhere to stock your lines and get depth. they can get that from texas and nearby states. Its definitely not as bad as Tennessee or Oklahoma most years.

You forgot Matt Stoltz and Brett Helms. Stoltz did not really pan out, but it was pretty embarrassing to the Arkansas program for us to come in and steal what were two of the top five recruits in the state that year. Also, Ryan Mallett, from what I understand, spent most of his life as a Razorback fan, growing up in Texarkana, and was not very happy with the coaching staff in Arkansas.

If Arkansas, for the last ten years, had a staff that could put the proverbial "fence" around the state, there would have been several years where they could have seriously contended for an SEC title.

Good call.

As far as the Mustain thing goes, I don't know all of the facts, but on the surface, I think Nutt just put his foot down when a bunch of whiny arse bitches and their parents complained that their boys weren't getting to play. Two Words: Darren McFadden.

You're correct, you do not know all the facts. Actually, you could not be more wrong.

That whole situation was a cluster from the beginning. The program sold it's soul to make sure the state's top recruits did not bolt AGAIN and it blew up in their faces. That whole think played out exactly like I thought it would!

I can't understand why Arky wouldn't go after Gary Patterson from TCU. He'd be a great fit imo and is familiar with the region when it comes to recruiting. He's had to go after second tier players to build a program that wasn't much before him. With Arky, he'd really have a chance to prove himself.

They are having a lot of internal problems right now. Coaches see there is a power struggle going on and just don't want to be involved in that.

Doesn't help that they have a horrible roster for next year also. Doesn't matter who is coaching the team, there's no way they will exceed more than 4 or 5 wins next year. This is the reason Nutt left.

That too!!!

Kind of reminds me of the later years of Dale Brown's tenure as LSU B-Ball HC--hiring players' H.S. coaches to make sure that a recruit would come to LSU.

Here is something that makes things even more interesting. I heard this weekend that Tubby let Arkansas know that if they wanted to talk then he would listen. I'm not sure if his agent pissed them off or what but my understanding is that they never really pursued him. The way it was told to me was he told them to call and the phone never rang. Sounds like someone dropped the ball on that one!

Hell Carlos, I betcha most people on here don't even know about Mitch's mom being attacked with the 2x4 by those women and then Diana Nutt sending out an email saying she wishes she had been one of the women swinging the wood. Now that's something all Nutt fans should be real proud to defend concerning the coach's wife.

I think Nutt and the PTB realized the heat was fixing to be turned up in the kitchen, I mean the courts, and got of town hoping things cool down. It's still a long way from being over.
