Chances change comes before bowl game?

What are the chances? Seems that all the coaching moves are done before bowl games. Think Bumpas will come over that early?

If Miles does make a change, I think it'll be before the bowl game.

So you are going to install a whole new defense before the bowl game???
At most they would bring the new DC in as an advisor to work with players and sit in the stands during the game. BTW, what DC would we hire that's not in the playoff hunt in the NFL or a bowl game of thier own that they are not busy and what would people think if that guy left his team? Also, a vanilla version of a new defense would look bad in a bowl game and would not have the fans excited over the off season. It's a lose/lose to do that.

Dude it's done all the time. AU did it with Tony Franklin last year. Bowl practices give the new coordinator a chance to partially install the new defense before spring ball. Plus I think the first 2 weeks in December are a key recruiting time so it's beneficial to have the new coach(es) in place by then.

Before the bowl is a great time to do it. Your guys get extra practice time with the new coordinator and begin to learn his scheme/system.
You don't junk the old one and totally install the new one though. It's done in steps.

Thats totally not the point. The question is are you going to install a whole new defense in one spring practice plus two weeks of fall camp. Why not give the kids 3 more weeks of exposure to the new defense? its not like they've shown themselves masters of picking up assignments.

As long as the guy is not in the NFL playoffs or BCS title game it won't matter. Other bowl game dont matter. Carl Reese left us before the bowl game to go to UT etc etc.

yeah, you dont want to look bad in the Independence Bowl. It means everything.

we did it with Tepper if I remember correctly, and actually looked good. though he didn't totally put his D in, just changed some of what Reese did. But anyway, I think the announcement comes right before or right after the bowl, and the co-DCs still coach the bowl game.

I've advocated hiring before the bowl game as well.
The downside here, though, is that if you hire a new DC this quick, you run a big risk of limiting your DC pool to those candidates who are on staffs who get fired after the season. It's doubtful that the DC of a bowl-bound team would leave his old team before their bowl, just to join LSU before theirs. It would have the opposite effect on the old school - an interim DC for the bowl, and a new DC post-bowl that would require installing the new defense during fall practice only.
That said, there are 2 very interesting candidates that may fit this bill: Paul Rhodes from Auburn, and Vic Koenning from Clemson. But as critical as you've been of the co-DC disaster, are you really OK with Miles limiting the pool of DC candidates this way?

Fair enough. But I think we can all agree that was a special case. Specifically, Dinardo ran him out on a rail as part of his transformation into Captain Queeg. But if Miles could find a similar situation, LSU may be able to get the best of both worlds - a bowl bound DC who can start December 1. That's why I went with "doubtful" as my adjective.

I'm convinced this is why the West Coast offense rarely works in college, if ever. Didn't seem to be a problem in Austin, though.
2. Robinson imploded so badly at Cuse that he may simply have the Stink of Failure on him. It may just give the Urban Meyers of the world something else to nega-recruit with.
