UPDATE - posted in the edit to my OP

Just watched all offensive plays Pitt v Clemson

- Creative formations and shifts
- Zone read does not use qb legs, but instead fakes the zone then shuttle passes/pitch to TE/HB under neath.
- played well upset game vs Clemson

However
- The passing attack is very deficient. A good bit of the passing game came from repeated forward laterals (shuttle pitches) to backs and tight end, which technically counts as a pass. Very Little vertical concepts. Not much going on in terms of crosses, slants, etc. Some attempt to throw bubbles which were blown up. Lots of roll outs.

- Lots of bells and whistles pre-snap (not much happens after the snap). Though there is innovation in formations and pre-snap shifts, actual play selection leaves a bit to be desired, mostly due to under developed passing concepts.

-Could be something to build off of. I question whether this system fits the SEC, or whether it is a meaningful departure from what LSU, Arkansas, Florida, or Georgia already does.

Conclusion: I don't question whether Dellinger sources has fed him Canada's name, I would be surprised to find that reports of his candidacy is anything more than a screen, with very little "sauce."

In response to your ETA:

I would say he has run several different offense at different OC gigs. He's m like kiffin, in that respect. He will try to cater to the talent on the team.

Not so fast. Canada's offense seems to lack a clear identity. He runs spread, with weak passing packages. He runs pro style, but only after switching formations 4 or 5 times. The QB runs zone, but never runs with the ball.

I think people here a so desparate for "a name" that they are anxious for anybody.

And it wasn't just in this game. Or this year at Pitt.

Canada's offenses have never had a strong passing component.

Given that this is the primary element of our offense that needs to be rectified, I'm a bit shocked that he's even being considered.

How talented is Pitts QB? Did Canada design this offense to fit a weaker armed qb? Kind of like what Ensminger tried to do with Etling maybe?

The offense was even more conservative with Jacoby Brissett at NC State (2014), now with New England. Current qb looks athletic. In any event, its kind of hard to "guess" what a guy will do giving the talent. What he has "actuall" done, is what on his resume. Push for Helfrich.

I see zone read concepts but QB never pulls and runs. Lot of shuttle passes after zone reads.

This may be because of the QB he has. I don't think he has spectacular wheels. I believe he is a transfer from UT, who according to their fans, has improved greatly under Canada from what he was in Knoxville.

His offense may look a bit different with a true DT QB.

He might work out, but that is a 2-3 year transition of the ENTIRE offensive roster if he runs what he did at Oregon. He isn't a power spread guy, and his system isn't a perfect fit here. There is also NO track record of what he runs working consistently in the SEC.

All I know is that the most spread oriented team in the SEC (Ole Miss) scored 48 points on Alabama. The pieces are in place. Transition is not a great as you think. Only the minds of the current coaches and fans.

I hate having to guess, without seeing it on film.

I wouldn't put OM and Helfrich in the same boat. Freeze is closer to air-raid or veer and shoot in the way he stretches the field vertically with the pass. All three of Freeze's starting QBs have been pass-first guys who can also run. Just look at the passing numbers. Their entire offense hinged on them.

Also, look at the fact that OM is about to hire a new OC and is looking to fix their in-ability to run the football consistently. They likely won't look the same next year.

Does not look dual threat QB based. Makes me wonder if there is any sauce behind Dellinger's report.

Jacoby Jones rushed for over 500 yards his junior year at NC State.

Nathan Peterman ran for 291. I don't think he is really a Duel Threat so I imagine he would run less.

Quoted by the Pitt HC from one of the linked article's

quote:

One thing Pat Narduzzi mentioned in his initial statement upon Canada's hiring was that he finally had someone loyal. That almost had to be a subtle dig at former coordinator Jim Chaney, who bolted the program after staying there only a year.

Ouch if O gets Canada.

Nathan is pretty mobile, and Jacoby Brissett ran mostly on scrambles. Go pull up the film, virtually no designed runs.
