Can they pay as much to Les?

How much do they pay coordinators?

How about position coaches?

Only a fool would leave. (poor choice of words)

They can probably pay more. Just depends on if they WANT to.

Well also what kind of taxes do they have?
Will they provide housing for Les?
Will they provide car?
Would they offer perks such as free private schooling for kids?
Is that even allowed?

I dont think it is a question of "if"....just a question of "will".

Not trying to ruffle feathers....just that it is a fact we have deep pockets, and very rich support/alumni.

Most schools dont put a 230M makeover on a 107k seat stadium.

Michigan state income tax rate is a flat rate and lower than Louisiana's from what I checked. Just an FYI.

Truth here. As a public institution, Michigan buries LSU in every category.

i'm well aware of how big the stadium is. i also know you pay as much for head coach as a lower tier SEC team.

And that is only the head coach. the assistant coaches are what make and break you.

just because Michigan folks are somehow even more arrogant than LSU folks, doesn't mean the Michigan job is more attractive.

how attractive a job is, and how much they pay not always the same thing.

pretty sure Michigan can afford to pay Les SEC type money, the question is will they

Tressel was highest paid coach in Big 10 and he would be the 4th highest in SEC. Michigan was paying Rich Rod 2.9 million which would make good for 11th in nation and 3rd in Big 10.

I think Michigan could go after Les offering 3.5-3.8 million.

We have NEVER paid SEC type money. Our AD says those days are over. Says we will pay market value.

I think you guys need to read up on it. It wasnt done prior due to the friction with the academic side. I hope this gives us a huge boost with staff....even if Les doesnt sign on.

this pretty much proves what i'm saying. i watched Calipari do this to Memphis every year. Each year while not improving salary, always getting more money for his staff.

hen it comes to assistant coaches, things are different; unfortunately for everyone involved. In 2010, Michigan peeled of $1.8M in compensation for former Coach Rodriguez’s staff ranks in the 73rd percentile for the 112 programs listed (top-31 money) but dead last amongst the big dogs. Who among us is willing to pay more money for better defensive assistants? No one, I’m sure… /s.

you people just don't get it.

Rebel, you bring up a good point about assistant coach pay. LSU has proven it is willing to pony up some cash for staff. Les has gone to bat for Chavis and Crowton.

Is UM willing to pay to get Les some help? He's going to need it up there.

Les couldn't even get Gary Crowton to Michigan for what they would pay.

The job just isn't as good of a job. i realize that miles went to michigan, but if kent st were to call Saban, would he consider leaving?

Les will leave one day. He will retire at LSU, get fired, or leave (but only after a better job comes along)

He would coach the Lions before coaching Michigan.

If the reports are true Jim Harbaugh turned down about 1/3 more from the Dolphins.

Andrew Luck is turning down a lot of money for now at least.

I'm with you that unless Michigan does some uncharacteristic spending good chance les stays but stranger things have happened

I'm not so sure. I have no way of knowing what UM is willing to do to win again. They have the money, they just need the will to use it. Passing on Les three years ago and going 0-6 vs. Mich St. and OSU might have them in a different frame of mind now.
