It doesn't help that VanGorder vs Bobo is about as big of a mismatch as a bear vs a guinea pig.

What if the guinea pig goes Richard Gere on the bear?

Then the bear will eventually die of dysentery ...

That is the kind of hire Auburn needed. Only one team ever got 30 points on him while at UGA and they rarely got 20.

This isn't a homerum hire for Auburn, it's a grand fricking slam.

He was good though. The Falcons defense got better his first, second, and third year to the point they were top 5 in the NFL last year. This year, they were 12/32 in total defense and #5 against the run. That is still upper 3rd in the NFL (or close) and it looks like his secondary just sucked. Facing Brees and Cam multiple times will do that to a team.

This is a true testament...seeing the glowing...GLOWING remarks from the UGA fans for this guy. That never happens, when a coach leaves and is this well thought of.

Im not gonna get any work done the last 90 minutes today.

WG, would you trade Grantham for BVG?

right this minute? No, because of the difference in schemes and I really like Grantham.

If you asked me after '09 when we had a DC vacancy? I'd have brought him back in a damn heartbeat.

Looks like a good hire ... makes the A&M hire look like some sort of little league

It would have been a solid hire if you were still in the big 12.

Agreed. I still can't believe we lived with Willy fricking Martinez. How the balls we went to the Sugar Bowl with him and Bobo is insane. We had to have more talent than any team in the nation to conquer that ineptitude.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for me and my family at this point in my career, both professionally and personally, to become the defensive coordinator at Auburn,” VanGorder said. “I’m looking forward to working at a school with the success and tradition of Auburn, and for a coach like Gene Chizik, who has led the program to a national championship. I’m very appreciative to the Atlanta Falcons and Coach Mike Smith for the experience of the last four years. It’s a great organization and will have continued success in the future.”

BVG and Martinez both coached together up north before being hired here. They had similar philosophies and Richt said that in 01 it was basically a coin flip between the 2 as to who would be the DC. And to be fair, Martinez was a hell of a DB coach and our play at DB from 01-04 was very, very good. I don't necessarily blame Richt too much for promoting him in 05. HOWEVER, it was very evident that he stunk pretty early on and we shouldn't have kept him near as long as we did.
