Look,…. I wouldn’t have picked a fight with you if you would have started with this:
Sorry I didn’t word my response to your liking…
quote:
“Look, I understand that many people have concerns about Bob Stoops being out of college football for 5 years. It’s a valid concern and I understand why people would have it. That said, here’s why I think you guys shouldn’t be concerned with his lengthy absence….XYZ reasons” My entire issue with you was the “our fans don’t know football and are uninformed if they think Bob Stoops being out of the game for 5 years matters.” For me, it was never about whatever trivial argument you’re trying to have about Bob Stoops, who is without question a legendary coach worthy of sincere consideration for any job. It was the condescending tone that you know football and anyone that might not favor the Bob Stoops hire doesn’t.
But how is the word “uninformed” condescending? It’s your issue, not mine; the tone that you read replies in; always being on the defensive is a sign of weakness. Like you’re looking for and trying to find something or anything to make yourself a victim somehow. Because in all honesty; everything you just wrote, shows me that precisely what I said about being uninformed is accurate and truthful… you are dying on this “he’s been out of the game for 5 years” hill as your only reason for not liking him, while simultaneously arguing that you aren’t uninformed about him. But ironically the fact that you even think he’s been out of the game for 5 years is vastly UNINFORMED. So both of your complaints and arguments you’re trying to make are showing you don’t know what you’re talking about; which is exactly what I wrote in my comment. Yet you continue to try and argue; and then have the entitlement attitude to say I’m condescending or act like I know it all… I don’t know it all, but I do know ((and you’ve proven me correct)) that the complaints our fans have on Stoops are stemming from being uninformed and a lack of CFB knowledge…

Stoops would be a frickkng bottom of the 9th go ahead grand slam, type of hire. The fans who argue against him don’t know college football as much as they think they do. They are the average “keep up with the Jones” fair-weather type of fan, looking for the flashy name or the coach that is trending. How often have those type of coaches ever panned out? It’s not a gurantee.
A gurantee though, would be to hire someone like Stoops who has shown over many many seasons the ability and formula for leading a successful football program… hire the guy who has proven he can do it! Not the hot name guy who you hope can do it!

Man, I apologized. I concede. If he’s the hire I hope you are right and that he does great at LSU.
I like your points about his role in moving the game forward on offense, regardless of how large or small that role was. I obviously do not agree that hiring a coach out of the game for that long is a good idea. Regardless, I sincerely hope he does well if he’s the hire…I can see it happening and him having success here. I simply don’t think he’s the right coach for right now at LSU… If that opinion makes me uninformed or weak or lack of football knowledge, so be it, it’s just an opinion on a potential football hire.

This is what im thinking too. If he would sign for 5 years, i think he would get us back to contending for championships yearly. Homerun hire that would be instantly credible, no more cartoon characters for the national media to clown on. I certainly wouldnt want to see stoops at Florida or somewhere like that.

It’s not your opinion making you uninformed man, you don’t get it… it’s that you keep repeating and arguing using a statement that isn’t true and can’t even realize it or see how it’s not true. Bob Stoops has not been removed from the game for 5 years. That is an uninformed and untrue statement… yes, he has not had a HC title in COLLEGE football in 5 years; but Lincoln Riley has made it abundantly clear that Stoops has had a huge role and importance to his staff, and he was coaching in the XFL in 2020. He has also gone on record many times during interviews talking about how his hiatus from HC’ing has been brutal and extremely boring for him. Saying quote “I want to win championships again. That itch never goes away”. So there is a proven successful championship caliber coach eager to win again, sitting out there, begging for a program to come calling. And LSU needs to be that program, before another team does. With SEC talent and recruits and with our facilities and budget and support; the sky would be the limit for him. He’s proven he can beat Saban; and I can almost gurantee you, Saban would shite himself if LSU hired him.

That being said, Spurrier never set the world on fire when he arrived at South Carolina.

Success is different from program to program. I would say that by South Carolina standards, spurrier was actually pretty successful; up until
the end when it was clear the game had passed him by…. But he brought them their first East title and he was at the healm of the most successful era in South Carolina’s program history.
So yeah, not setting the world on fire type of success; but if we’re being realistic, would any coach be able to set the world on fire while at SC?
