How does that = owning the state?
I never said owned the state in recruiting. I simply said owned the state, as in Saban is and will be the highest profile coach in the state of Alabama no matter who Auburn hires.
I already admitted Auburn's alums are willing to buy any player their coach wants. Recruiting is not the problem at Auburn- Nick's shadow is.

Show me how I am wrong.
Auburn- cover up one of the largest scandals in SEC history and don't have their title taken away despite sportswriters everywhere digging for the skeleton as well as fans of the state they share.
Arkansas- can't even cover up their coach falling off a bike or hiring his personal poon despite owning the state.
The two aren't close.

So over the past 4 years, Alabama has commitments from 17 of the top 40 players and Auburn has commitments from 14 of the top 40 players.
Bama cherry picked. They easily could have gotten more. There's a reason over half the roster is from out of state right now. Talent level had been down in the state overall.

Arkansas. By all accounts, Long and the Arkansas admin are awesome to work for. You don't hear the same about Auburn.
Without question. Unless Auburn gets a really strong personality, it will be a tough job for anyone. And I don't think a lot of the people who pull the strings are willing to let go of their control.
Agreed. Au is Bama pre-Saban as far as the network still trying to run things.

Alabama's got the following top 10 players from the state over the past 3 years (based on 247 composite rankings)...
2012 - 4
2011 - 4
2010 - 6
And currently has 3 of the top 10.
Auburn has gotten...
2012 - 1
2011 - 5
2010 - 3
And currently has 5 of the top 10.
So over the past 4 years, Alabama has commitments from 17 of the top 40 players and Auburn has commitments from 14 of the top 40 players.

The list:
1. Auburn without current good ole boy network running things
2. Tennessee
3. Arkansas
4. Auburn with current good ole boy network running the show

Auburn! Much better recruiting base.

don't see a scenario where Arkansas is able to outbid Auburn if they are going for the same coach.
Arkansas could out bid anyone in the SEC if they wanted to.

I'd have to go with Auburn
Posted on 11/9/12 at 8:48 pm to Bernie Moore
i think they are pretty equal. each has their goods and bads.
you would think entry point for arky would be great-- win something and you'd be a god forever there, but then again, petrino set some high standards within the hog community
auburn wants to fire the guy who won them their first national champion in 53 years less than 22 months ago. but i will give it to them- it seems like 22 years since chiz hoisted the crystal ball
one has a better recruiting base, though they share it with the resident bully. that program also has meddling boosters. both can/will pay for top flight coaches, so thats a wash. both have to play bama and LSU every year.
i think its close. really close. will be interesting to see how coaching candidates view the 2 programs. you gotta think their short lists will include at least a few of the same names.
and i think both better jobs than tennessee going forward

If I'm a coach, I have to wonder what the hell the expectations are at Auburn. Tuberville had a winning conference record 8 out of 10 years at Auburn and got run out of town. For comparision's sake, Bobby Petrino would've had to have a winning SEC record for 6 more straight seasons to match that at Arkansas. Chiz won the first MNC in 53 years and got run out TWO years later. This ain't an easy conference and division. If the above isn't good enough, what the hell is? And is it a reasonable expectation?
Fair observation, no doubt. I think Tubs got burnt out on Auburn though during that 2008 season. He had a helluva run and for the most part, his defenses played pretty good football. I thought he was a good recruiter but an even better coach. You can't say that about Chizik. Tuberville's players didn't get into trouble off the field like Chizik's players have.

On the other hand, Arkansas gave Petrino every single little thing he asked for and worshipped the ground he walked on.
and to me, that would be a terrible hire for Auburn. They didn't pull the trigger to get him back in 2003 and it ended up serving them pretty well.
To the OP: Auburn.

Most the people bringing up this point are simply trolling, but Tubs was definitely burnt out. He stopped recruiting over the last 2-3 years he was there. That being said, Tubs would have been back in 2009 if he had been willing to make wholesale changes to his assistants on offense. He refused to fire his buddies, so he was fired himself.
Regardless of how much people try to act like Auburn burns through coaches quickly, we've had 4 coaches over the last 30 years. 7.5 years per coach is damn good compared to most of the rest of the conference.

Historically Auburn, due to current events/situation Arkansas.

Based on what the numbers say I would probably go Auburn.
Auburn Athletic Department Budget $103,982,441
Football Expenses $33,334,595
Gene Chizik Salary $3,500,000
Football Attendance 85,792
Arkansas Athletic Department Budget $91,768,112
Football Expenses $24,325,173
Bobby Petrino Salary $3,638,000
Football Attendance 66,990
