Right. And according to Jimbo Fisher no one had talked to any of his assistants. 24 hour later Stoops was named at UK. It's how this works. Strong lied, but not technically. He didn't "interview", but I assure you a phone conversation took place with his agent and him on conference.

And since when does a phone call by Auburn to Strong or his agent asking if he's interested constitute an interview?

There were even reports that Stoops rejected UK. Calipari said he wasn't leaving Memphis and was the HC of UK within 24 hours. Coaches say this shite all of the time.

IMHO Strong is the best Coach available. He has proven himself a great coach at every step. If Miles and Chavis had left I would hope LSU would have hired him.

Really, whether or not Strong actually interviewed is less the issue than the fact that the idiots involved in the search for Auburn can't keep their mouths shut. That's what's going to get them another appearance by airport guy.

Concern? Ha! Like I said, Jurich was great entertainment last time! It's not every day you get to see an athletic director publicly humiliate a university president on national television. I'm looking forward to the sequel!

Well, yeah, but I was also thinking of the sequel to this:

"Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich said he was "very disappointed" that Auburn officials visited Petrino without requesting permission to speak with his coach.

"I can never envision myself thinking that any president of any university would fly in and talk to a football coach, especially without contacting at least our president or myself," Jurich said in a news conference Wednesday. "I really deem this a terrible misfortune for everybody."

Petrino was Auburn's offensive coordinator last season, leaving to take the Louisville job.

(Auburn president) Walker did not immediately return a phone message left with his office by The Associated Press.

Something to keep in mind - often ADs do t mind if info gets public for a number of reasons, such as 1) find out who you can trust with info, 2) to force the hand of the real candidate, 3) to gauge public response to a candidate knowing said candidate will deny the report, etc.

I know it's easy - and logical based on history - to assume Jacobs is an idiot. That said, a name and info coming out is t always an accident.

Just because a name coming out isn't an accident doesn't mean it isn't a stupid move. With the situation Auburn is in right now, they can't afford to put any possible candidates in a jam with their current employers..

Hey, maybe Auburn has learned a few things over the years. At least this time, before they contacted the Louisville coach, they remembered to fire their current coach first.

yessir

You really can't take what a coach says about leaving for greener pastures at face value when they have a big game coming up.

The day AU introduces Bob Petrino as new Head Football Coach will be the lowest point in the schools athletic history..

doesn't Louisville have a game tomorrow?

This shows how pathetic and amateurish the person who leaked this is.

You don't do a phone interview for a head coaching position.

You don't announce that someone has interviewed unless an informal offer has been accepted. Damaging to the candidate and to field of candidates.

Strong gets made out to be a money whore who is looking to better himself the week his team is playing for a BCS bowl.

AU has not sought permission to speak to strong, much less interview him. Could result in litigation (interference with a contract) but at the very least is embarassing to AU.

Candidates don't want it to be public information that they were passed over for a job.

No benefit to AU, much detriment to Strong. I wouldn't be surprised if he announces shortly that he is not a candidate for the AU job.

I don't sing.. Their whole existence is based on being above the Bammers.. They believe because they are a smaller fan base, that they are somehow more exclusive, and therefore somehow morally superior to their big brother. Hence all of the "Family" "God thing" "Auburn Creed" crap. This coach signs the dotted line there, and all of that crap goes straight out the window. Hell, maybe I am wrong.. Could actually be the greatest day for them. The day they drop the bullshite facade, which is all it has ever been..
