I sure hope he's wrong. Bad idea to keep either of these two hanging around. Malveto is a poison in the LSU well.

while I agree with you to not keep them around... dont forget they were both on the staff last year... when we won the National Championship... maybe just together as CO-DCs they are poison

I really don't have a problem with either as position coaches as long as they are coaching their specialty. Peveto is a good recruiter and I really don't think Miles will let Mallory go. We need a solid, name, DC who is a tough arse and will be the teams bad guy.

I have a problem with this. If LSU is going to bring in a new DC. That DC should be allowed to bring in coaches that he feels would be best suited to run his D.

And if he wants 2 position coaches from a Nat'l Champ team that helped coach defenses to top 5 rankings I am sure everyone here will be ok with that.

I agree and being that Miles is not a defensive genius, he should not let the new DC also be a positions coach. The new DC needs to be able to watch over the entire defense all the time and not be bothered with coaching one position.

Question: Why would a "solid" DC accept the position with such preconditions as, "oh, by the way, you need to keep the two guys who you are replacing on your staff"??
A "solid" DC is likely "solid", in part, because of the staff he's had to work with in the past. Wouldn't it make sense for this new DC to, you know, bring along guys who are loyal to him, know his scheme and his system, and who have proven ability to be successful in working w/ the new DC in the past?

One more thing, I never believe anything I hear that comes from DD; however, I do think he is a good man and a great Tiger fan.

I a new DC is brought in they have to leave. What kinda loyalty would they have for the new DC? It is just plain human nature. If you were replaced by your boss and had to work for the guy who replaced you, How would that be?

Does the same apply to Crowton and the QB's?
Not just based on this season b/c he had A LOT of work to do with young QB's, but just in general with any OC.

If so, we have not had a punt return game for 3 years. Also, have not blocked but 1 kick that I can remember. Since CUM has been at UF they have blocked 40 + punts/fieldgoals.

The other part of special teams is the kicking dept, as per kick-offs I mean. When is the last time our kicker has kicked into the end zone?
C'mon, anybody who can go for a 63 year field goal can kick the ball into the end zone. There must be some kind of coaching strategy to hold the kicks short. I can see it once in a while, but what sense does that make every single time?

You may want to rethink your statement.
One was the LB coach and the other the DB coach. Prior to this year, our LB's and DB's were just fine. Could have used some more talent at LB, but the play wasn't lacking. Peveto coach special teams, which he was terrible at, which is why he was stripped of that duty.
They didn't work well as Co-DC's but they did fine when they coached only positions. I didn't mean to put BDP back at special teams, only LB's.
And we blocked a FG vs. Bama this year, a FG vs. Ohio St. last year, and a punt in 2005 vs. Arizona St. I know that sucks pretty bad, I was just pointing out the very few we have blocked. I can't remember any others either.
