quote:

Ursula K. Le Guin, the immensely popular author who brought literary depth and a tough-minded feminist sensibility to science fiction and fantasy with books like “The Left Hand of Darkness” and the Earthsea series, died on Monday at her home in Portland, Ore. She was 88.

Damn. I had to read one of her big ones in a fiction class at LSU.

I was looking at The Left Hand Of Darkness, on the Audible sale list Tigris linked, then clicked to the OT and saw she'd died. Crazy.

Damn, she was a good writer, especially for science fiction. I hadn't read her since the 70's but Left Hand of Darness came up as an Audible deal (and is on sale now as mentioned). It's one of the best written sci-fi books I've ever come across.

I enjoyed the Earthsea books, although I only read the older books from the 60s and 70s.

The Lathe of Heaven is a great read.
