Just started the Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy to get ready for the Netflix adaptation... Anyone here read any of the series? I had a good friend suggest it to me as a masterclass of world building recommendation, and it's been on my TBR for quite a while. One of the few times that I'm jumping into a series knowing very little of what I'm in for and interested in what others here think.

VERY long time TD member in a lurking capacity and recently started checking in on the Book Board. Looking forward to being a more active participant!

Lots of discussion around this series in lots of different threads. It's well-regarded on the book board. I've read it. It's great. Chinese names are hard. That is all.

I am halfway through The Dark Forest. I'm listening through audible which makes it somewhat difficult to keep track of characters with Chinese names but they do a good job with the different voices.

It is such a interesting world and concept about alien contact. I am hooked. It ramps up and just grabs you to read more.

I read the trilogy last summer and it’s now my favorite series of all time. I thought it was incredible. I’m normally a slow reader but finished them all in maybe a month. The 2nd one was my favorite. The 3rd is good but starts to get really out there with the science and the time span. A lot of people have trouble getting into it because they’re turned off by the Chinese names but it didn’t bother me. The couple people I reccomended it to couldn’t get through the first book, so it’s not for everybody

I’m not sure how well it’s going to translate to screen with this new Netflix series coming up. I don’t have high hopes but we’ll see

I can see it being a difficult read for people who aren't into physics, because the author, who is an engineer, delves deep into the physics realm with this one. I loved it, but I don't know how others would take it. He gets deep into the weeds with technical talk.

I have barely a passing knowledge of physics, other than what I've learned from watching Star Trek, and I feel like he did an outstanding job of explaining these concepts for the layman.

I agree. I thought he explained it all very well. I just think he spent so much time on getting deep into physics throughout he book that people with little interest would not enjoy the book. He gets away from the story quite often with it. Personally I really enjoyed it, as I have an interest in physics, but I can see someone else not.

I knocked this book out last weekend. First time listening to an audio book,(all 3 free if you have Spotify premium) so I went back a few times and re listened to several parts. I can see why some might have a tough time, technical and maybe dry at times, but I think that's due to the translation.

Names could be tough at first, but following the perspective, it was not that bad.

I can see why some called it a sci-fi with horror aspects as well.

Through the prologue of the second book and kind of want to leave work to read!
