Pretty much anything by Erik Larson is solid reading.
Dead Wake (sinking of the Lusitania)
Isaac's Storm (Galveston hurricane of 1900)
In The Garden of the Beast (rise of Nazi Germany)

Clinton Cash by Peter Schweizer
is a good political read. You can skip through a lot if it does not interest you. Every chapter is independent of the other.

How to Read a Book by Moritmore Adler.
I haven’t read this so question for you:
What do you think his thoughts would be about audio books.

Well his book was initially written in the 40s I believe and then revised in early 70s. To an extent the same principles but he does explain about fully speed reading the preface and table of contents to get a general idea of the book. I guess as far as getting the most out of a book I don’t see why you couldn’t do the same with audio book, I’m just not sure. It’s just hard to say since he wrote that before audio books. I may google to see if he mentions audiobooks later since I think he didn’t die till early 2000s.

Thanks.
These days I am getting most of my pleasure reading on audio while in the car
