I love Illuminatus but it's definitely not for everyone.

Hagbard is my hero. And Markoff Chaney is awesome. Great characters and a really fun book.

There's a really good series that I can't think of the name right now but it's about an old gypsy warrior/wizard who owns an Inn. He's hiding from his past and he keeps a demon with him who helps him with the inn. His parents were stage actors and were killed by demons that can't be named aloud. So his mission in life was to find and kill the demons.

mostly fantasy suggestions here. I am going to recommend Scalazi - Old Man's War. It is an incredible book, especially for anyone over the age of 40.

every person I gave it to, loved reading it. Sci fi and non sci fi fans alike.

Redshirts is probably the best book I have ever read.

The Magicians trilogy - Les grossman
Wheel of time - Robert Jordan
Mistborn - brandon Sanderson
Storm light archive - brandon Sanderson
There's a few one shots that are pretty good by Robert Sawyer : mind scan, flash forward, calculating God .
Dune is good but a difficult read
