Where is the best place to buy mass market paperback? I hate how big these books have gotten and despise hard cover as well

Try abebooks (mostly used) as well as Amazon and ebay

Abebooks has some weird reviews but I’ve never had a bad order. I think it’s mostly from people who assume they’re paying for brand new books when most of them are like new or in decent condition.

Barnes and nobles hardly ever has the mass market paperback version.

Is there a reason there aren’t released in the smaller format when the book is released? Money for hardcover ?

It's kinda like movies... Movies used to go to Movie theater, then to VCR, and then to HBO, showtime, etc.

Your better known writers have books that come out Hard Cover for the first x amount of time or y amount of copies. Then they release it in trade paper. If it's popular enough and given the time it's been out, THEN They do the mass market paperback which is much cheaper to print.
