I am going to Italy next week and I’m looking for a book about Italy. When I travel I like to read about where I’m going. For example I read the count of monte Christo when I went to Paris years ago. I’d rather a non fiction book. I have read Dante’s inferno, and a biography about da vinci but need another one.

I'd prefer books on Rome, Venice, Florence, or the Amalfi coast, but I'll look into all the suggestions. Thanks

This is probably much more apecific than you were looking for, but 'The Face of God' since you may find yourself near Manopello.

Going to Florence and Rome? Read "The Agony and the Ecstasy" by Irving Stone. It is a fictional biography of Michelangelo but it is based on well researched facts. I read it before my recent trip to Florence and came into contact with many places and works of art that were detailed in the book.

Similar to this but non-fiction, easy to read, and more comprehensive than it sounds, is 'Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling'. A fantastic read. I read it prior to a trip and it changed how I viewed the Vatican and many other sites.
