Looking to purchase the novel from Larry McMurtry but looking to see if any of y’all have read it and have anything to say before purchasing.

Seems superficially like my type of book though.

It’s more raw than I thought it would be.

Read all four in the series in chronological order according to the story line which is not the order in which they were written.

This.

The series in order is a complete masterpiece.

So out of the 5 people who responded saying they read it, any more insight on reading it chronologically vs in order of release? I would think reading in order of release wouldn’t be a bad idea either

I only read Lonselme Dove then the one that came after. (Streets of Laredo)

No comparison.

Have not read the prequels Dead Man’s Walk or Comanche Moon. They were written after Lonesome Dove so they are true prequels.

So if I was going to start the series, what order would you fellas recommend?

Either start from the beginning sequentially or start with LD.

Knowing what I know now I would still read LD first.
Getting to know the characters as McMurtry first wrote them is the overriding factor for me.

Read Lonesome Dove first. Then read Deadman's Walk or Comanche Moon, doesn't matter their order. Lastly read Streets of Laredo, the worst of the 4. It still worth reading though..

Agreed.

The first three were so dang good and I think I like the first two even better than Lonesome Dove
