Former Dolphins fullback Rob Konrad was fishing by himself Wednesday night off the coast of Palm Beach, Florida, when he accidentally fell into the water. Konrad then braved the Atlantic Ocean waters and swam nine miles back to shore. Per ESPN...

According to multiple reports, Konrad, who was said to be fishing alone off the coast of South Florida, fell from his 36-foot boat, which had been operating on autopilot.

Petty Officer Mark Barney of U.S. Coast Guard told ABC News that Konrad was in the water for 10 to 12 hours.

Friends became concerned after he didn't meet them for dinner, and the Coast Guard later sent a helicopter to look for him, according to The Associated Press.

Konrad was found on the beach by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office at 4:40 a.m. ET on Thursday morning after he contacted them.
Konrad, a former Syracuse grad, played for the Dolphins from 1999 to 2004 and was released by Miami in March 2005.

something is off on this. 9 miles swimming? 10-12 hours in water? Thats a long time. And at night?! Amazing if true. that time of day and 9 miles off shore it would likely be very dark. I guess he would have seen lights in the distance to guide him.

9 miles off shore in the South Atlantic is in the middle of the gulf stream. Very amazing. In fact at Ft Lauderdale, you can "deep sea fish" within 1 mile of shore at Port Everglades because the gulf stream runs that close in. (Ive done it.). Dude is obviously a great athlete and very lucky. And...Sharks!

9 hours? Larry, I know you are Chickens special cousin, but please try your best not to confuse and mix up stats/numbers/facts. The guy SWAM 9 miles, over a 10 to 12 hour period. Not vice versa.

How do they know he swam 9 miles?

I guess he won't keep the boat on auto pilot anymore!

So, where's the boat now? Lot of the story is missing...
