Check out this awesome footage of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig taking batting practice back in 1931...
quote:

On April 11, 1931, Fox Movietone sound cameras made slow-motion captures of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig at batting practice during an exhibition practice in Brooklyn, New York. With modern technology, we can witness this footage adjusted to a normal speed which results in a very high framerate. I've also included more footage of the practice (shot at typical fps) and the original un-edited slow-mo captures.

That little hand stinger Babe got at the 2:30 mark is enough to put most guys on the 15 Day DL in todays game... This is great stuff! Never realized how big Gehrig was. And I love how they hand off the bat between players.

I could watch this all day! Makes them seem human and not the sped up videos that we usually watch. Love to see the fans too. Gehrig was such a strapping dude! The Babe made it look easy. Thanks for posting!!

It is amazing to see how they swung a baseball bat in BP compared to during the games. They were not as lazy swinging the bat as this video shows when the games started but they still had funky stances, that was 100% how they stood in the box. Two of the top five greatest players ever in the same lineup at the same time...wow!

Never would have guessed Ruth's stance/swing were so unorthodox.

All the fans wearing full suits and hats. Classic.

And almost no one was cursing, or throwing each other down the steps with a fat lady throwing lazy windmills at their backs.

Cool video showing two greats during batting practice without the excessive grainy look. The field of view kinda sucks. You can see Babe Ruth at the 2:20 mark when he pops up saying, "frick!".
