The advantage Joe has over some of the other great college quarterbacks is that he reads defenses well. He isn't a backyard-ball scrambler who looks for a play. He obviously studies film and implements game plans to exploit weaknesses. This should translate very well to the pro game.

Over the years, it's become clear to me that NFL talent evaluation really is just fickle groupthink. I'm sure Joe will be good, but maybe tap the breaks on the "Clear Cut #1 call." Mel said even nicer things about Jamarcus.

You're right but I remember Russell in college and I remember thinking he wouldn't succeed in the NFL because he was all arm and couldn't read a defense. I'm sure the NFL guys thought they could teach him how but it's clear that isn't the case. The biggest thing Burrow has going for him is the fact he can read a defense and make quick decisions. Because of that I believe he will be very successful.

Give me a break. There's absolutely no comparison between Jamarcus Russell and Joe Burrow. Russell used to actually hide during Oakland practices because he couldn't grasp the offense. That will never be the case with Joe Burrow.

So put yourself in 2007 and tell me where Jamarcus should have gone *based solely on college performance*. The only other alternative is the Raiders taking Megatron and if that happens, Jamarcus sure as hell wasn’t slipping past the ever-QB-needy Browns. Jamarcus was rated that high because he was the best QB available *given what everyone knew at the time*. All you’re doing here is lazy, Monday morning quarterbacking because nobody in 2007 would have predicted that Jamarcus would give up on life and eat himself out of the league.
