It was announced Monday that long-time LSU sports announcer Jim Hawthorne will miss the Tigers upcoming Saturday game against Alabama as he recovers from a successful medical procedure that he had last week.

This will be the first time in his career that he has missed an LSU Football game. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

“I appreciate all of the wonderful thoughts, prayers and well-wishes from LSU fans,” Hawthorne said. “The show of support has been overwhelming. It’s truly humbling to have so many people call, email, and send text messages asking how I’m doing. I can’t respond to all of them, but they are very much appreciated.”
Patrick Wright of the LSU Sports Radio Network will handle play-by-play duties in Hawthorne’s absence. Gordy Rush will fill in for Hawthorne during Les Miles' Radio Show on Wednesday.

LSU announced back in February that Hawthorne will retire at the end of LSU's upcoming basketball season. He will be replace permanently by Chris Blair who is currently the "Voice" of Georgia Southern University.
