LSU has narrowed its head coach search down to Houston's Tom Herman and interim head coach Ed Orgeron, according to multiple reports.

Per The Advocate:

LSU's search is down to two.

Athletic director Joe Alleva and interim coach Ed Orgeron met Friday morning to discuss Orgeron’s candidacy as LSU's full-time coach, while the school continues to harbor hopes of landing Houston coach Tom Herman, multiple sources told The Advocate.
Per ESPN:

LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron is the Tigers' clear-cut "backup plan" if the school is unable to hire Houston's Tom Herman, a source said.

Orgeron met with LSU officials Friday, a source said, adding: "The meeting went really well. If Herman says yes, he'll be LSU's coach. If not, all signs point to Coach O."
It has also been reported that LSU would like to make a decision by Sunday.

frick frick frick frick frick. frick. Can't believe we're gonna settle for a losing record coach. You don't fire a legend in Miles to hire a DL coach with a losing fricking HC record.

2 month head start and you settle for a Dline coach that just lost at home, on senior day to a 2 touchdown dog....

You can't blame O for that loss. The game plan was sound. It was lack of execution on critical plays in the red zone. If Guice wouldn't have scored as opposed to fumbling on the earlier drive. Any moment that Florida still had would have been loss. The gamelan was sound. Execution was extremely lacking...

The coaching in that game was worse than Leslie Miles.

I will probably quit being an LSU fan if we hire the Cajun Fred Flintstone as our head coach. What a fricking crock of shite that would be.

Ill quit too..if Coach O is LSU best option. This is about as bad as the President being a racist, sexist sexual predator.

If that makes you quit pulling for LSU, then you were NEVER an LSU fan to begin with, so no loss. Hit it.

So LSU is Herman's backup plan? Sounds like he'll jump as soon as another ride shows up!

If O can get a really good OC, I'm happy with him being the HC. He'll bring motivation on game day, but won't tamper with the OC or DC. He'll let them do their jobs. Something Les Miles could never do. Herman and Aranda have history so I see no reason why they couldn't work together. I think whoever they get, its a win for LSU. A lot of people are low on Herman, but you gotta give him credit for putting a team that made a little bit of noise with so many strong colleges he was competing with for recruits in Texas. He did more with less. Imagine what he could do with the wealth of talent at LSU. Coach O was handed a shot storm that Miles left in his wake. He turned the program completely around and the team supported him the entire way. He's a player's coach. Yeah we lost a game to Florida that we should have won. But it was execution miscues. The game plan that he and the coaching staff put together was sound. You can blame him for that game. He held Bama to 10 points. I think he wins that game with an entire off-season to implement his system, approach, and philosophy. Regardless of which one LSU goes with, I think they are going to do really well next year. I say that without my LSU goggles on.

Why does a decision need to be made by Sunday? Sounds like they need to calm down and push it back a week if need be. If the coaching search has gone down like the Advocate and some on this site are saying than our AD is incompetent.

Because of recruiting. These kids coming in want to know who they will be playing for. LSU needs to show stability as soon as possible for recruitment.

I know it's for recruiting, but a coach is more important than one class.

One class can set a program back several years.

Alleva, if you see this, make a serious run at Herman, and if you don't get him, at least make Texas pay top dollar for him. What other top 5 program would promote from within like we are rumored to consider doing? It would be laughable

Herman is another Sumlin. The best coach for LSU is the coach there now. Get him an OC like Major Applewhite and Alabama will have to settle for No. 2 in SEC West. Want something good and best for LSU? Get rid of Alleva.

Ed orgeron the best coach? You have to be fricking kidding. There are 30-40 COORDINATORS (not counting head coaches) that have a better resume than Coach 0.
user avatar
Rickdaddy418889 months
If we hire a career position coach to be lsu's hc i will be livid. The man wouldnt be a top 5 candidate AS A DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR at any top p5 program. He has NEVER ran a successful offense, defense, or program.
