Ross Dellenger with The Advocate is reporting that LSU defensive back and track sprinter Donte Jackson has been ruled academically ineligible for the spring semester.

The 173-pound speedster is expected to qualify over the summer and participate in preseason camp in August, the source said. However, Jackson is not allowed to complete spring football practice or to compete in the track team’s outdoor season – an end to a highly-anticipated rookie year for the Riverdale product.
Jackson was absent during Tuesday's practice session.

Here is coach Les Miles talking about Jackson balancing his academics and two sports on Saturday:

@studentofthegame..I also went to LSU and early own I missed a few classes..Instead of having people call me "dumbass " I had older men and women encourage me to achieve my potential. I ultimately went to dental school and own my three dental offices. So if you think calling me a dumbass is insulting it's not..because I'm probaly the smartest "dumbass" you will ever know.

It's time to study and actually be a student, Donte. It's going to cost you a lot of money if you dont. Go to class!

It's funny that so many of you high school educated posters are calling someone, who at least, are in college a "dumbass". Most of you wouldn't qualify to get into a college. So before making such disparaging comments evaluate your own shortcomings.

Or could it be that they were never afforded such an opportunity and are smart enough to see that Mr. Jackson here, is in fact wasting a helluva opportunity. Doesn't take a college degree to see this.

If he plays football and runs track, he is required to be on football scholarship. Same with all the past baseball players who also were on the football team. The rules are in place so football players arent just put on scholarship for other sports ie as Bama and Nebraska used to do back in the day.
