John Brice with Football Scoop is reporting that new LSU head coach Brian Kelly is focusing on Cincinnati offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and Kansas City Chiefs’ linebackers coach Matt House to join his staff as OC & DC.

The potential hires would replace LSU OC Jake Peetz and DC Daronte Jones who were hired by former coach Ed Orgeron last offseason.

Offensively, numerous sources this week told FootballScoop that Kelly is expected to reunite with Mike Denbrock, Kelly’s former Notre Dame offensive coordinator and assistant head coach who spent seven seasons alongside Kelly in South Bend, Indiana.

Denbrock, who also previously worked with Kelly at NCAA Division II power Grand Valley State early in both coaches’ careers, has spent the past five seasons as the offensive play-caller for Luke Fickell’s Cincinnati program.

On the defensive side of the ball, Kelly has set his target – per sources -- on an up-and-coming NFL assistant coach Matt House, the Kansas City Chiefs’ linebackers coach who spent almost two decades coaching at the collegiate level before he exited the University of Kentucky three years ago for an opportunity with the Chiefs. We really need to stop calling this “opting out” and just call it what it is. Quitting the team, and because it is exactly what they are doing.

If O could have helped develop the coordinators it may have been a different story. He couldn’t and was too busy playing with Bambi. We are paying for Os screw ups with recruiting and coaching changes but all that crap is about to change.

Coach O made a mistake that hurt LSU...the OC & DC positions are not for On-the-Job Apprentices! The chain is only as strong as each link and (nothing personally) but these two were weak links that exposed us!

He probably didn’t even interview them. Busy with Bambi

I was hoping he would keep Daronte Jones.

Yes let's keep the guy who has been learning on the job instead of somebody who already knows what they're doing. That's a wonderful idea.

Thanks, but NO thanks.

Daronte Jones Jones. “Did I stutter?”

If he goes for House, we’d have to wait possibility until February to see if he’d take it. What if he says no?

Maybe Kelly knows that Daronte would take the job at any point, so he can afford the risk of waiting for Matt House to make a decision.
