Georgia senior cornerback Deandre Baker was named the winner of the 2018 Jim Thrope Award on Thursday night at the College Football Award Show, beating out LSU cornerback Greedy Williams for the honor.

Notre Dame's Julian Love was also a finalist for the award, which is presented annually to the top defensive back in college football.

Here is how some of his current and former teammates reacted to the news:

I fully support Greedy and any other player who wants to protect their futures. College football is frickin' joke and is no different than the WWE...fake and scripted. Pundits push a narrative and corrupt individuals make sure it is implemented successfully. This is the 5th year of the CFP...two teams have been in the last four years; Bama and Clemson. So teams are only really "playing" for two slots each year. If you don't play for favored schools your season is a fricking crap shoot based on what ESPN and national sports writer feel is appropriate. So, to the kids...play for you. Play for your shot at the big time. The school you play for doesn't care about you and it doesn't have the stones to stand up and say "Enough is enough". They're complicit in the corruption. Down vote away...

"Grabby" Williams flat out did not deserve the award. Delpit was the MAN in the secondary for LSU, and deserved more accolades. Williams got away with more holding and interference than an NFL DB, and got abused too often to be considered elite.

Look the guy can play or not play but I am fed up with hearing all the absolute crapola about this HUGE POSSIBILITY of getting a lifetime injury in the last game he would ever play in college. The chances of that are very small and in fact the reality of the situation is that it is more likely that a player sitting out his bowl game is already dealing with an agent and taking money. It is more likely an Agent telling him he needs to sit out than any deep concern the player has. Let's just admit that Agents are meddling because I truly believe that is what is going on.

He probably missed out because of how he was abused in the aTm game.

It’s a “meaningless” award. So he shouldn’t be too upset. He’s still getting paid soon. #greedy

Haters going to hate because they disagree with your decision...Keep in mind these haters don't have next level talent and can't understand how difficult this decision is or how this business of football works because they are blinded by their fandom...good luck on next level

There's three Opinions on this ! And like "A" holes, everyone has one. #1 Greedy wants the money now !(Selfish?) #2 Greedy plays in the bowl and stays another year ! (Selfless) There is no memory greater than playing four years with your mates and winning it all. #3 Delpit was the better defensive back this year ! No doubt, he was robbed !

I'm sure Greedy is still recovering from the heart break and pain that was caused when he found out that Bandits58 disagreed with his decision to skip playing in the meaningless "Fiesta Bowl" epic showdown with the Defending National Champions UCF!!!

Sorry "loopdog" but you seem to have forgotten a bit of info that could make Opinion #2 (Selfless) a tad more complicated. Greedy plays in the bowl and blows out a knee, has to have surgery to repair the knee. Then he drops from early 1st round (which guarantees a multi-million dollar contract) to, if he's lucky, 5th-6th round or even worse undrafted. Then his coworkers at the Piggy Wiggly drop the nickname "GREEDY" and for the rest of his life he's affectionately refered to as "MR. SELFLESS". But hey I'm sure all of us RANTers would absolutely, positively, no doubt about it throw caution to the wind and PLAY IN THE MEANINGLESS FIESTA BOWL so as to not be SELFISH RIGHT

Probably for the better. He could have gotten injured putting the trophy in the car. #safetyfirst

Delpit outplayed everyone on LSU’s defense this year. If any LSU player was robbed of the Thorpe, it was him.

Choosing not to play in the bowl game may have swayed votes against him.
