LSU’s Devin White was named the Butkus Award winner on Tuesday, presented annually to the top linebacker in college football. He is the first player in program history to win the award. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

White beat out finalists Josh Allen (Kentucky), Devin Bush (Michigan), Tre Lamar (Clemson) and Dylan Moses (Alabama) to claim the honor.

White, who was named first-team All-SEC by the AP and the league's coaches this week, had a career-best 17 tackles and 4.0 tackles for loss, including a sack, and a forced fumble in LSU's season finale against Texas A&M. He was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2018.

As much as his ability is great, he deserves as much credit for challenging himself and not taking the easy or selfish road because he seems to have great character. He could've easily demanded to play RB, but humbly and wisely took the expert advice of college coaches to move to LB where he's had the brighter future. He could've seen the easier path for a championship by being another Bama groupie from Louisiana, but played for the home state school in Bama's division to make LSU's program better. He could sit the bowl game to protect himself (and nobody should ever question his heart), but he's decided to better his team/program because it seems to be in his DNA. Devin White's legacy may be the foundation of sustained success that LSU has previously seen with players like Glenn Dorsey and Patrick Peterson. GEAUX DEVIN WHITE!!!

Little ole Springhill Louisiana has produced a Heisman winner and a Butkus winner. That’s something Haynesville can’t match.

What a TIGER, we can talk about all the great linebackers at LSU and I'll say even in all time SEC linebackers, Devin "Mr Purple and Gold" doesn't take a back seat to any of them. Well deserved Devin God Bless you young man in all you do. What a Tiger!
