Many LSU fans weren't too happy when it was announced last week that the Tigers would kickoff at 11 am vs. Utah State this Saturday in Tiger Stadium.

On Monday, head coach Ed Orgeron as asked what he thought about the early morning kickoff:
quote:

Q. Fans may not like 11:00 starts, but do you feel like it takes away anything from your effort or from what your team's advantage, especially when you're going against a team like Utah State that would never have experienced Saturday night in (indiscernible) Stadium?

COACH ORGERON: First of all, I do believe that Saturday night in that valley is a great experience for both sides. And it's a great advantage for us. And the more we can play Saturday night in Tigers stadium the better off we are.

But scheduling is out of our control. So we'll never make an excuse for it. I do believe that Derrick told me the last of our last six games, three of them started at 11.00 a.m. This is the third one that starts at 11.00 a.m., and we've been very successful in those 11.00 a.m. games. So we're going to continue with our game plan. Do I wish it was at night at Tiger Stadium, yes, I do. But there's nothing we can do about it, so we're going to make the best of that situation.
Here's some history on early kickoff, according to the LSU-Utah State game notes:
quote:

Saturday Marks First Scheduled Non-Conference Morning Kickoff

*The 11 a.m. kickoff time between LSU and Utah State will mark the program’s 31st morning start since 1977.

*LSU is 19-11 in those games, which includes four bowl games.

*The Tigers have won the past 11 morning kickoffs since 2004, including the past five at home.

*This is the first morning game inside Tiger Stadium since a 33-10 win in 2017 against Arkansas.

*Dating back to 1960, it will be the first time LSU has played consecutive morning kickoffs.

*It will also mark the first time LSU has had a non-conference game scheduled for a morning kickoff in Tiger Stadium. LSU’s game against Appalachian State in 2008 was moved from 4 p.m. to 10 a.m. due to Hurricane Gustav.

“The Tigers have won the past 11 morning kickoffs since 2004, including the past five at home.“ —That can’t be right. We lost to Florida in 2016 in an 11 AM game.

That was not a "scheduled" morning kickoff. It was moved/rescheduled for 11 AM.

That game actually kicked off at noon.

Players, Coaches, and Staff all love early games. They get the day off after the game rather than loitering around all day waiting. Of course O would be foolish to admit that since the fans hate the 11AM start because it means less/no tailgating.
